Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed Another penny saver for Full Moon, and an unfortunate unpleasant one. Mar 9, 2012 Full Review Steve Dread Central What makes Skull Heads work is due to the performances, in particular that of Robin Sydney. She successfully carries the film on her shoulders - and boobs. Audience Member Written, produced and directed by Charles Band — I mean, it has small puppet-like killers and how can we even keep track of the demonic toys, devil dolls, worry dolls and skull heads at this point; also why was this not called Skull Headz and part of Full Moon's urban films? — this movie starts by having Naomi Arkoff gettingis tortured on a rack for having a cell phone. Obviously, the Arkoff family is non-traditional and they also live in a castle in Italy, which would be the other Charles Band leitmotif. Those little tiny Skull Heads protect the Arkoff family. Originally, the Romans buried the dead in catacombs and built the home that they live in to guard against grave robbers. And the little guys were created by witchcraft to keep people from messing with the dead. Can you guess that the Hollywood producers who come to film the castle really want to steal what's inside the tomb? Also, you may not realize it, but you're going to watch a family drama that goes on for nearly an hour before the occult comes in, which is…well, it's exactly the kind of movie I expect from this studio. Beyond finding this movie under another title — Devious — this also shows up in a cut-down remix within Full Moon's The Haunted Dollhouse. It may actually be better in this short format because it cuts out all the real people and gets us to what we really want: Skull Heads. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review joe m Campy, kind of fun pseudo-horror flick that relies too much on tired cliches. Every plot development can be seen coming well in advance. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A bit of a downer, there isn't much Skull Head action, and the overall characters are pretty bland and uninspired. The pacing goes steady, but with little action or scares, the film ends up being a bore that ends in a drag. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member The Arkoffs aren't very fond of visitors, and when their teenage daughter allows a trio of thieves posing as movie executives into their beautiful Italian villa, she'll understand why! The thieves get more than they bargained for when the home's protective spirits, known as the Skull Heads, are unleashed upon them! While the plot may sound familiar to the PUPPET MASTER and DEMONIC TOYS fans, the production quality behind Charles Band's recent SKULL HEADS takes a leap forward thanks to the medieval European vibe that is created by the Roman villa. The superior sets call back to the Full Moon greats like CASTLE FREAK and SUBSPECIES. Robin Sydney delivers one of her best performances to date, and comes off with an innocent charm that passes her off perfectly as the teenage Naomi. Steve Kramer and Samantha Light also make for an entertaining pair as the elder Arkoffs, with the classic kind of quirky character humor that was found in HIDEOUS! or HEAD OF THE FAMILY. Really, the titular creatures have a minimal impact on the plot, but the combination of puppetry and computerization that brings them to life works well on screen. Although it has been generally overlooked, SKULL HEADS is a worthy addition to Charles Band's signature line of tiny terrors. -Carl Manes I Like Horror Movies Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Nice crazy little film.
