Cath Clarke Guardian It is a slight, lightweight film, gruesomely hilarious in places, with one or two echoes of the Coen brothers’ Fargo. Rated: 3/5 Mar 14, 2022 Full Review Paul Lê Bloody Disgusting Some Like It Rare will undoubtedly satisfy a craving for something dark and weird without ever feeling too heavy. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 21, 2023 Full Review Dallas King Movie Marker Audiences will be laughing one minute and gasping in shock the next. Like the perfect sausage recipe, writer, director and star Fabrice Éboué blends comedy, violence and horror seasoned with a bittersweet romance at the film’s heart. Rated: 4/5 Nov 29, 2022 Full Review Hasitha Fernando Flickering Myth Some Like It Rare is a simply structured but surprisingly effective black comedy, that will slay you with its dark humour and disturbing content. Oct 29, 2022 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Some Like It Rare is a brutally funny satire that lampoons the cultural divide between meat consumers and vegans. A horror comedy about cannibal serial killers could have been mishandled, but Some Like It Rare is a skillful balance of macabre and mirth. Oct 24, 2022 Full Review Nathaniel Muir AIPT Some Like it Rare is filled with laugh out loud funny moments. The jokes can get very dark, but they are never used solely for shock value. Everything services the overall story about a failing marriage and the idea of having control of your own life. Oct 12, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Aldis H I'm on and off with French cinema; some of its oeuvre I just can't get down with, but this is the funniest horror comedy I've ever seen, and that's not hyperbole. I've never laughed so hard. Who knew the French could be so freaking funny? Brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/17/23 Full Review Stine M The movie was quite funny and enjoyable until it became blatantly transphobic. The story start well but really goes nowhere after the halfway point and the ending is just lazy. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/28/23 Full Review Lagrange P Some Like It Rare is a terrific film that blends horror and comedy more seamlessly than most. Even as the horrific deeds are done and the blood flows freely, the hilarity doesn't stop. This film is a treat, with excellent performances from the leads and supporting cast alike, who absolutely sell the carnivore/vegan conflict as more than simply a disagreement, but unhinged mortal combat. Well directed, with excellent visuals, an inherently silly plot, and joyful buckets of blood and body parts, the film moves smoothly from showing endlessly patronizing and thoroughly amusing vegans pontificating (or attacking violently) to their appearance on someone's plate or in a display case. More than just funny in an ironic or tongue in cheek manner, the film is genuinely hilarious, plenty gory, and should be viewed by genre fans as a particularly tasty morsel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/05/23 Full Review Thom G Some Like it Rare is cleverly hilarious, subtly but decidedly politically incorrect, and led by two strong performances and great character development. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Ravenswood R Very poor film. Characters are rough sketches, comedy is not funny, though it tries. Conceptually there are several errors, and the internal logic, even for something this farcical, is woefully inconsistent. It is like two or three writers wrote parts of the "plot" and basic concepts and premises without talking to each other to see if any of it would make sense. Example - people are repeatedly killed, and the next day (or same day) sold as "ham." People eat the human meat and say how good the ham is, comparing to other aged and cured ham. You can't make ham overnight. (?) Literally makes no sense and no one writing this or directing this even cared enough to correct it. The humor they are going for is straining so hard to try to be funny by being shocking or silly and totally fails. The music choices are especially awful, canned and obvious. Any critics liking this or scoring this above 50% is completely beyond explanation. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/22 Full Review Audience Member Hilariously macabre cannibal story from France. Reminds me a lot of City of Lost Children. The premise is a butcher falling on hard times has his store trashed by a bunch of vegan protestors. Latter he sees one of them riding her bike on the side of the road. In a fit of rage he runs her over. Now fearing jail the wife has the brilliant idea of butchering the body and selling it to the public. You can see where this is going, though this time it is not pies. The public love the meats unique taste and business is now booming. Thing is... they need more bodies, and not any bodies. Grain fed, healthy vegans. The is not a horror film, nor is it really gory. It has some juicy cuts. Like a hammer falling on a head, then a cut to a meat grinder making sausage sort of thing. What this is though is a very very French style black comedy about a couple that decide to hunt vegans in the south of France and sell their flesh. Verdict : I loved this movie. Hilarious, and surprisingly wholesome for a story about cannibalism. Sometimes I watch so much American stuff seeing a "foreign" film really feels so fresh and new.
