Pare Lorentz Vanity Fair Unfortunately, Keaton has entirely too much to say and that itself is very unfunny, without adding that the lines are dull and labored. maria b Delightful comedy with extraordinary performance by Buster Keaton. Jimmy Durante and a great cast of others in a movie slightly risqué but still with an innocence not often seen nowadays. Loved the song and dance numbers, too! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ashley h Speak Easily is a disappointing film. It is about a timid professor inherits a large sum of money and decides to fund a terrible musical. Buster Keaton and Jimmy Durante give horrible performances. The screenplay is badly written. Edward Sedgwick did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A very large majority of Speak Easily is borderline painful in it's mediocrity and blandness. I like Buster Keaton, but I did not like his performance here. There may be a multiple of reasons why: it could just be his character is annoying, it could be the way that he (either Buster himself or his character) talks is annoying, or it could just be that Buster isn't fit for talkies. This IS the first talkie I've seen with him, so I don't want to generalize. But I just couldn't stand him. It's not a complete disaster because there are a few pretty funny gags that did make me laugh. If it weren't for those few great moments, this film would have been horrendous. But there are few. And even the best bits aren't that great. Sorry, Buster. But you did bad here. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member somewhat funny, but towards the end it gets really boring, and it ends horribly. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member 6.5/10. Quite decent Buster Keaton feature length film, it's not up to his silent film standards, but it is very watchable. The plot sounded better than it turned out, but still worth a look. Johnny Depp would be an awesome Buster Keaton in a movie bio. I must say I really enjoyed this film. It has one of my all time favorite comedians in it by the name of Buster Keaton. This is definitely a classic comedy. The writing for this film is just wonderful and very entertaining. This film kept my interest all the way through. Buster Keaton, Jimmy Durante, and Thelma Todd are among a very talented cast that made this film so funny. I became of Buster Keaton’s about a year or so ago and he continually amazes me. “Speak Easily” is about this professor who doesn’t have much of a life when it comes to friendships or love. When his butler decides to pull a well meaning prank on the professor that’s when things become truly funny. In the end the professor gets the life experiences that he needs. I would suggest this film to any one. This is all time classic. The disc doesn’t have a bonus feature but then again like I have said before, some films don’t need a bonus feature. Please see what you think.
