The plot was pretty interesting, and the ingenuity of the characters was also cool. However the characters don't really evolve and there isn't any kind of message, not to mention the science behind the plot is pretty far fetched. The thing that really carried this movie for me was, as previously mentioned, the visual effects, the costume design, and how the characters react to problems in unexpected ways. Building state of the art weapons from bits and pieces laying around? Too convenient, and even if they could fashion such a weapon the battery packs they had would never create this much power. 75% of the movie had a kind of storyline, but the last 25% made no sense, had massive plot holes and just seemed lazy.
