      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Pacing problems prevent Stowaway from fully engaging, but it's distinguished by its thoughtful, well-acted approach to a story built on an excruciating moral dilemma.

      Audience Consensus

Although it's well-acted and beautifully filmed, this cleverly conceived sci-fi drama is undone by its predictable, drawn-out story and a frustrating ending.

Derek D Not a great movie, the actors are great but there are so many flaws in the plot to do with space, it can't be overlooked, gravity being one of them. There are a few instances where there's gravity in space where there shouldn't be. Also there should be so many redundancies for space travel, and there sure aren't in this movie. Not to mention how buddy is behind a panel that no one actually looks into how he got there as he had to have been put there by someone else. Not great. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Benine V That's 2 hours of my life I'm never getting back. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Captain A The movie centers on a space launch crewman who accidentally stows away on a two-year mission to Mars. As the ship struggles with limited oxygen, the crew is forced to decide whether to euthanize him to save resources and ensure the mission's success. Despite the ship doctor's efforts to save him, the crew ultimately chooses the mission over his life. In my view, while it may seem harsh, sacrificing one individual for the greater good of the mission was necessary. Expecting the stowaway to negotiate for compensation overlooks the complexity of the situation, hinting at possible underlying motives for his presence on the ship. The film prompts reflection on ethical dilemmas surrounding sacrifice and collective goals. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/06/24 Full Review Farheen H This movie ended much differently than I anticipated. My heart was beating out of my chest and the ending is bittersweet. I highly recommend this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Sara W the best part of the movie.. was when they took the air recycler thing out, and it showed the two looking through the small pipe leading out to space... so then it turned into a accidental comedy, because at that point I'm thinking...wait, so how exactly did a grown man get put and apparently bolted into place in that small space? since the ship would've had to get built around him? so I suddenly had thoughts of him flying through the small pipe like Santa and splatting into the middle of the ship. I was watching this with roommates and they literally made me go to the other room because I was busting out laughing so hard and I couldn't stop Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/24 Full Review Christophe L This could have been a good movie, but I'm afraid the screenwriters forgot to consult real astronaut when they wrote it. This crew is a real a bunch of losers disregarding every safety measures and common sense during the entire adventure to the point it becomes insulting for every people working in extreme (risky) environments who are going through endless hours of training to avoid this level of nonsense. I'm certain you can write about things that may go wrong during a space journey without having to fall for those pathetic sense strings. Robert Levin Newsday Such a tightly written and engaging character piece that it overcomes an unconvincing premise. Rated: 3/4 Apr 26, 2021 Full Review Charlotte O'Sullivan London Evening Standard Stowaway, it turns out, is just as intricate and immersive. Rated: 3/5 Apr 24, 2021 Full Review Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture Just about every confusing plot point is overcome by a powerful human moment. Apr 23, 2021 Full Review Carlos Ovalle But Why Tho? A Geek Community Stowaway is not complex, nor is it trying to be, but if you’re looking for a quick distraction that’ll leave your palms sweaty and your heart racing, then this is well worth your time. Rated: 8/10 Jan 22, 2023 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut {Stowaway} completely mishandles any chance of a morality play by playing it too safe. It’s such a flat experience that it made me ponder whether the world is round after all. Rated: 2/5 Oct 9, 2022 Full Review Zoë Rose Bryant Loud and Clear Reviews Stowaway is a new kind of sci-fi story - one that highlights how complicated moral concerns and true-life tragedies can be far more troubling than any of the extraterrestrial threats we’ve come to associate with the genre.
