What to Know

Critics Consensus

Pacing problems prevent Stowaway from fully engaging, but it's distinguished by its thoughtful, well-acted approach to a story built on an excruciating moral dilemma.

Audience Says

Although it's well-acted and beautifully filmed, this cleverly conceived sci-fi drama is undone by its predictable, drawn-out story and a frustrating ending.

A Geek Community Stowaway is not complex, nor is it trying to be, but if you’re looking for a quick distraction that’ll leave your palms sweaty and your heart racing, then this is well worth your time. Rated: 8/10 Jan 22, 2023 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut {Stowaway} completely mishandles any chance of a morality play by playing it too safe. It’s such a flat experience that it made me ponder whether the world is round after all. Artus O This has to be one of the absolutely most ridiculous concepts for a movie ever. A mechanical engineer, working for a space program SOMEHOW gets knocked unconscious, hanging in a spaceship & is discovered after lift off? The sheer absurdity of this explanation: "I must have got knocked out." For how long? Being "knocked out & waking up somewhere else" is a horrible trope used constantly in mysteries. People don't get knocked out for extended periods of time in like 99% of cases. He's in an enclosed space. How was he not accounted for? He has a ******** sister & co-workers who would have been like... "uh yo. Our friend hasn't been around. Last seen at work. You know... in a spaceship." It's not like a mechanical engineer is on board the craft minutes before lift off. I thought, maybe, he intentionally stowed away (which by the now that I think about it, he'd have been absolutely shredded from the lift off, not being buckled in) stating his dream was to be on the next flight, but the writer has said straight up, "Nope. Is just an accident." Stupid. Not believable. Even Anna Kendricks outstanding charisma & hilarity can't save this piece of junk. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review Nitsan S Very well made. Also very slow and sad. Just not that enjoyable for me personally. Ignoring the reviewers who clearly don't understand the artificial gravity/spinning, my big complaint is how a technician got stuck behind a wall panel and no one at NASA noticed. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/24 Full Review Audience Member This movie sucked. I like Anna Kendrick, but she didn't have anything to work with. This was a very dull movie with next to no stakes. Don't waste your time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review Patrick F This was an okay movie. The performances were good, the story was intriguing. The moral quandary of the story felt a little rushed and as such it fell flat. Characters were put in a horrible situation, but their reactions were sort of matter of fact. The moral struggle that they underwent didn't translate to the screen. The movie could have used 2-3 more scenes to highlight the personal drama. That being said, I really liked how this whole movie was done in the vein of a "bottle episode." The only set was the space ship, the only characters were the 4 people on the ship. We only saw them interact with each other. Even when they radioed to Earth we only heard their side of the conversation. That was a smart film making choice I hadn't seen before. It was really well done and made you feel like you were on the ship. All in all the movie is worth a watch. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Derek D Not a great movie, the actors are great but there are so many flaws in the plot to do with space, it can't be overlooked, gravity being one of them. There are a few instances where there's gravity in space where there shouldn't be. Also there should be so many redundancies for space travel, and there sure aren't in this movie. Not to mention how buddy is behind a panel that no one actually looks into how he got there as he had to have been put there by someone else. Not great. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Benine V That's 2 hours of my life I'm never getting back. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
