Trent M Decent movie with some good submarine footage. Good, original, storyline and acting. One of the first movies to address PTSD in any form, but it tends to drag after awhile. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/05/23 Full Review gary d Excellent cast , good story. Well worth watching. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Stock war story with the advantage of having William Holden in the lead. This is the kind of picture that was cranked out by all the studios at the time. Compactedly put together and told usually built around an established star to keep them in the spotlight while a more prestigious film was either put together or sought. Fine of it's type but that type is average. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I just can't get enough William Holden. William Bendix was good too. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A shallow dive into the struggle of a WWII veteran after the end of the war. With such a wonderful cast- Holden, Bendix, and a surprise appearance by personal favorite Jerry Paris- I expected some real personality behind the film, but instead the actors went about their duties with a kind of dull adequacy, never giving the story the unique flavor it needed. Without any stand-out performances or sporadicness, this deja vu redemption story was and is nothing new; instead, it stands as a luke-warm salute to veterans of the war and a rather bland entry into William Holden's Paramount career. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Good cast and director elevate a fairly standard submarine story into something better than most sub stories. Interesting item of note, William Holden could not remember filming any of this movie due to his heavy drinking at the time. And this is yet another hard to find film that is not available on DVD or VHS that was shown on Turner Classic Movies. TCM is the best!
