Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com While the overall movie is a technical marvel, shot and edited to perfection by Bert Pot and Bert Jacobs, the kinetic majesty of what Crijns and his team manufacture would mean nothing without de Wolf's calmly unhinged magnificence. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 17, 2021 Full Review Lena Wilson New York Times This well-choreographed hunt is chilling, sure - particularly because of de Wolf's terrifying performance and unconventional choice of weapon - but it's also a little bit fun. Jul 29, 2021 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Tailgate” is a movie that latches onto some pretty familiar material but does nothing new with it. It’s made worse by chaining us to an asinine lead character who is as witless as he is insufferable. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Unquestionably well-directed... Jul 30, 2021 Full Review Matt Lynch In Review Online In life, we all suffer minor irritations at the hands of peoples' general lack of situational awareness and humility, but imagine trying to make a horror movie out of it. Jul 30, 2021 Full Review Mark Dujsik Mark Reviews Movies There isn't much to the story of Tailgate ... With writer/director Lodewijk Crijns' unceasing momentum and twisted sense of humor, though, [it] turns out to be enough. Rated: 3/4 Jul 30, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

neeraj k The family got enough time to defeat the old man. A young man can easily defeat an old man. And that old man was not even carrying a gun or a knife. There were many chances where the family could either easily defeat the old man or go far away from him. This film doesn't even seem like payback because the old man didn't have a strong enough reason to take his life. It seems that the old man deliberately wants someone to mess with him and he tries to make mistakes by people. This film should be psychological thriller film because the old man is totally a psycho man. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Bobby S Familiar premise but in the unflinching light of day and a brilliant deadpan exterminator killer (Willem De Wolf) the action doesn't take its foot off the gas & brilliantly builds tension till the final act where it is squandered, stalls and terminally ends. Such a wasted opportunity what were they thinking! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Gareth J Decent enough road trip horror that is at times as frustrating a watch at it is tense. Forgettable fun but just about worth the ride. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/15/23 Full Review Lagrange P Tailgate puts its foot on the gas and doesn't let up until the credits roll. An extremely well directed film with some amazing cinematography, it manages to take on a well worn genre plot device and make it truly tense and chilling. Although performances are generally solid, deWolf absolutely steals the show as the calmly unhinged antagonist. His slow and methodical manner of going about an extremely nasty business that he seems to feel is his duty is chilling and he pushes his foot right on top of the director's on the gas pedal. There are the typically ludicrous "why did/didn't you do THAT," decisions that annoy, in particular near the end when the protagonist, himself a terrible person, puts everyone at risk pointlessly. It's impossible to root for him, but we're not supposed to. He's the archetype of the arrogant and self-important road rager you see every day. Fearless surrounded by 2 tons of steel, but impotent and terrified without them. There are no deep messages here apart from the obvious, but that's OK from a film that barely offers the audience a breath during its runtime. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/03/23 Full Review Thomas R How I hate thee Dutch-thriller "Tailgate." Let me count thy ways. Director Lodewijk Crijns was inspired by and partially ripped-off the Coen Brothers' "No Country for Old Men." The dismal, unlikable characters make every moment of this cringe-worthy movie unbearable to watch at times. Bad things happen to bad characters—continually. It's as if the screenwriter turned off the fear-factor buttons in the characters' minds. One bad decision leads to another bad decision to cover up another bad decision, which spirals into cartoon-like structure. "Tailgate" isn't even mildly enjoyable or suspenseful. Don't waste your time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review A'chik Avenger G The movie is formulaic...same kind of films have been made before...for first timers, it will be a watchable movie, acting by actors are watchable. The cringe I felt watching this movie are the annoying characters and the laziness of the story writers. A typical city family...gungho as long as civilised law works but breaks down in panic as soon as the antagonist or villain or circumstances are challenging. Literally, in the movie, there were several times they could have defeated him or defended themselves... All of them have phones or tablets they could have simply shot the antagonist in action and give him a hard bump with the vehicle. The family is in a way dysfunctional with no clear head of the family---when the father tries to regroup the family on the roadside after they were attacked even the children do not listen ( though I do not know the father simply stops the vehicle and run to woods..come on they must have water bottles journeying on a highway to wash the sprayed chemical), the family reaches the town literally ...so many people there.... why was the wife acting crazy?!? .....it is as if the whole town will side with the crazy antagonist...geez even if you panic you will have sense to seek help from the ordinary citizens and with the children almost everybody would have helped, ok the grandmother has a medical condition which the son is so anxious to protect but the grandmother showed no signs of that condition when physically attacked, the coward father who panics a lot has problems getting out of the house when he can literally crash through the glass window and it is his parent's house he will know where lethal house tools are kept to attack and defend himself and family , when he gets out of the house he could easily ask the neighbours to call the police or ask for their help( come on even crazy usa citizens (😁 on film) helps each other are northern and eastern europeans such a dysfunctional society they do not help each other) but the stupid character of a father climbs the side of the house and asks for sick mommy for help when his wife is literally there... Aww..I do not know why this movie has such high rating here...it is cringe worthy...lazy writers...acting n film watchable to lose lazy hour.
