Wendy Ide Times (UK) Any chance that this flabby, pallid tale had of connecting with an audience was sunk the moment that writer and director Peter Domankiewicz cast himself as bewildered Brit David. Rated: 2/5 Apr 24, 2015 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian There is arguably a kind of heroism in getting this shoestring feature made, but the script is, frankly, terrible - and Domankiewicz doesn't come anywhere near cutting it as an actor. Rated: 1/5 Apr 23, 2015 Full Review Cath Clarke Time Out Domankiewicz is doing a Simon Pegg here, playing a hopeless bloke with knobbly knees and man sandals. And yet somehow he is human Viagra to the women of Spain. Rated: 2/5 Apr 20, 2015 Full Review David Edwards Daily Mirror (UK) It's a gentle and warm-hearted film, and its biggest strength is its pithy examination of how us Brits are regarded by our European cousins. Rated: 4/5 Apr 24, 2015 Full Review Trevor Johnston Radio Times Writer/producer/director Peter Domankiewicz shot this semi-autobiographical tale on a tiny budget, and also takes the central role, where his lack of leading-man charisma rather scuppers the film's chances. Audience Member I almost didn't see this movie because of the low rating but decided to give it a chance. It is rare that a story line that interests me is paired with such a low rating, so I suppose I was intrigued on that point alone. I went back and read some of the reviews after seeing the movie. One of the criticisms was over the lead character's acting ability. I didn't think it was all that bad. I actually found it to be authentic and genuine. All things considered, the film is semi-autobiographical, so typecasting doesn't get much better than that! I mean really, if you can't play yourself, who can you play? Another review I read criticized the decision of the writer/director/producer to cast himself, I could kind of understand why,but for a reason other than his acting ability. As I watched the film, I had to wonder why this young, beautiful Spanish woman is attracted to him and the film never really delves into that. It raised some questions for me such as: In real life, was this ladylove of his really that beautiful? Was she cast with another lead character and then at the last minute he decided to fill the role himself? Had that been his plan all along? (I don't doubt that there's a seedy side to the film industry and while there are some good directors out there, I suspect there's some sleazy/shady behavior that goes on even at the low-budget end of the spectrum ... perhaps even more so.) Regardless of how it all came to be, overall, I thought this was a good film and one worth watching. Don't let that 20% splotch of green tomato deter you. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Charming, heart-warming and funny. Greatly entertaining on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A sweet, endearing, sassy romantic comedy with some real belly laughs and some naughty bits! Well cast too! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Lovely indie British flick that had me laughing out loud. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews
