Audience Member Terror Beneath the Sea holds a hell of a lot more entertainment value then it rightfully should. MST3K should have picked this up because it is one of those cheesy movies that is a lot of fun to laugh along w/. Worthy of zingers left right & center that actually has a pretty good raging climax. The silver 'fishmen' cyborgs are a riot & the villain fucking delicious. Hell it even has Sonny Chiba in an early role even though he doesn't display is mad kung fu skills. He does do a little ass kicking but if he went Street Fight on the asses it would have been fan-fucking-tastic. C-grade in the least I have seen a hell of a lot worse (& boring) that aren't this much fun Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A very young Sonny Chiba stars in this fun bit of science-weirdness. Very much in the spirit of other 60s Japanese science fiction/action films, there is the obligatory sunglass wearing villain, groovy soundtrack, and exploding models. The costumes for the fish-men are truly awful, both in design and construction (you can frequently see where they've torn during action). But the subs are cool, and Chiba is good. I liked Peggy Neal as Chiba's girlfriend, too, when she wasn't screaming. If you're in a Godzilla mood, but want something a little different, check this one out. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Impressive sets, special effects and costumes are unfortunately wasted on a bad script with bad acting. Having a mostly American cast using a Naval submarine to attack a supervillian's evil, underwater lair was most likely an attempt to cash-in on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and the James Bond franchise which were both popular at the time. In many ways it plays out like a good Saturday matinee, but the female lead will not stop screaming and the end escape seen is tedious and aggravating with non-stop Star Trek-esq fight scenes. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member They should bring back Mystery Science Theater 3000, just to do this one movie!!! 4.5 drive-in speakers for this one!!! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Really early and absolutely incredible Sonny Chiba sci-fi. Underwater cyborg-fishmen and evil plots! Too good. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A must for Sonny Chiba fans who think his films feature too much martial arts and not enough cyborg fishmen with guns.
