Audience Member The Mask of Alexander Cross is a TV movie, and it shows. The story is interesting, but farfetched and quite unbelievable. Amazing how only one of Alex’s (Paul Shenar) old so-called friends has suspicions about Munroe/Cross’ real identity. Surely the woman he used to have an affair with should know something is wrong. And of course it wouldn’t work: copy the identity of a man who was killed because you happen to be the spitting image of him (again very unbelievable: I’ve never seen anyone remotely looking like Paul Shenar in my life – not what one what call a forgettable or in this case exchangeable face). I also wondered how agent Judson (Barbara Bach) and her lot could manage to know where exactly to dig up this spitting image, especially if he happens to be located in the middle of nowhere (the jungle of Kenya). The crime part of the plot seems thrilling, but does not deliver either (elaborated insufficiently, like many things in this rather short movie). The simplicity of some of the images (background projection that could have been done without, falling out of window that almost looks like slapstick) together with the cheap, overdone music completes the insufficient picture. Strangely enough, I did feel the movie had a reasonable entertainment value, probably brought about by the nice variety in locations, the promise of big things ahead (that never really come, but still), and the eye candy factor (Bond girl Barbara Bach, but Shenar as well).
