      Critics Consensus

The Belko Experiment offers a few moments of lurid fun for genre enthusiasts, but lacks enough subversive smarts to consistently engage once the carnage kicks in.

Alexis J The office meets battle royale, nothing more nothing less. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/30/23 Full Review Ray S This film successfully accomplishes what so many films try, and fail to, accomplish. The cinematography, acting, and editing are great. The film does a good job of depicting a complex scenario. There are no obvious plot holes; the film takes a big risk with a narrative like this, and it pays off. Totally worth watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review Jacob B The Belko Experiment very much feels like a film where its two prominent crew members had very different ideas on how to approach the material. James Gunn, who wrote the script back in 2007 and produced the final film (and makes use of tropes associated with him, including casting his brother and Michael Rooker) envisioned as a satire/black comedy. The actual director decided to have "The Office" meets "Battle Royale" played straight. This is the film's biggest flaw as while it offers enough entertainment value as an action-horror-thriller, any attempts at going deeper than that fall flat due to the one-dimensional characters with some exceptions (holy nepotism, Gunn-man! And that one Colombian lady as well whose fate was well-UNdeserved. Seriously, what the hell?!) and plot taking a bit-too-straightforward approach making it come off as a poor man's Hunger Games in contemporary times. I didn't hate the film but the potential satire really made me wish that, were it not for his Marvel commitments, Gunn was in the director's chair. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Nate L A bloody fun mess of a film. All I can say is that I really enjoyed watching this film despite its flaws. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/09/23 Full Review Dany G Interesting concept and that's all it was. During this movie, nothing makes sense. Mild SPOILERS: The building has 11 floors, the whole movie is on 3 or 4. 3 normal office workers become psychopaths out of nowhere and dont show any emotion during the whole movie. No build up. You wont root for anyone. There's a room full of guns but they will just ignore it for the entire movie. The weak looking "Hero" turns into Jason Bourne for the last scene. Ridiculous. Uuugh what a waste of time this was. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/13/23 Full Review Francois M It's like a Twilight Zone episode - a tremendously weak one - stretched out to be movie length. Save yourself the pain: AVOID. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Chuck Bowen Slant Magazine The disappointment of The Belko Experiment, then, is that it shifts so abruptly into horror-film terrain that it fails to examine the way this office has brainwashed these characters. Rated: 2/4 Dec 27, 2017 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) Going about its grisly business with undisguised relish, the film comes closer to the chilly spirit of science fiction writer J.G. Ballard than director Ben Wheatley did in his recent, overwrought adaptation of Ballard's novel High-Rise. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 11, 2017 Full Review Angie Han Slashfilm The Belko Experiment isn't much more than a good time at the theater, but it isn't really trying to be and doesn't really have to be. Rated: 6.5/10 Jun 13, 2017 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Somewhere between Office Space and Battle Royale, the scenario of The Belko Experiment turns a corporate setting into a gladiatorial bloodbath. Rated: 3/4 Apr 4, 2022 Full Review David Gonzalez The Cinematic Reel While The Belko Experiment leaves little to desire in terms of its characters, the film is quite entertaining in regards to its premise and whos next dynamic that plays throughout. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 18, 2022 Full Review Jason Adams My New Plaid Pants If we're in Trump's America now, then this is the movie for these times. The Belko Experiment is rage.
