Ben Sachs Chicago Reader The movie's an eyeful, though, thanks to the intricate production design and many artworks on display; it's also an earful, thanks to Ennio Morricone's fittingly lush score. Jan 30, 2014 Full Review Tom Long Detroit News "The Best Offer" is at its best when it's decidedly weird. Rated: B- Jan 24, 2014 Full Review Moira MacDonald Seattle Times An uneven but weirdly mesmerizing drama/thriller, Giuseppe Tornatore's "The Best Offer" offers an acting showcase to Geoffrey Rush. Rated: 2.5/4 Jan 23, 2014 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) The film is not without its share of flaws - the intentionally stilted dialogue will get on some folks' nerves - but does just enough to deliver upon expectations. Rated: 3/5 Jun 11, 2020 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk Tornatore lays on the symbolism a bit thickly, and the film's mix of accents offers a distinct whiff of Europudding. You will probably even see some of the twists coming. Yet the film is still terrifically compelling. Jul 27, 2014 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Part of a forger's craft involves not simply duplicating the images but replicating the strokes to be found in the original. Tornatore's film makes deft use of cinematic cliché to lead viewers astray. Rated: 4.5/5 Mar 31, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Jonathan K This film is pretty strange. It keeps cycling through the same patterns, trying to show the repetitive but gradual changes in the story. The storytelling device of having the main character recount the events of his day and then get advice from his assistant is pretty hokey. And let’s not forget the very creepy age gap -- definitely something that would raise eyebrows now in the post-"Me Too" era. Maybe that should have clued me in that something was up. The tone is odd too. It’s kind of eerie, like something’s not quite right, but not in a way that makes you realize there actually is something wrong, just in a "what am I watching?" kind of way. If you know there's a twist coming, it helps. Otherwise, it just feels a bit silly. I really wish I’d realized it was going to be a twisty little psychological thriller -- although "thriller" is probably a stretch. It's kind of dull until the end. Also, the story itself is pretty unbelievable. I mean, how could he be so duped by this (seemingly) mentally ill girl? The whole thing feels a bit too much, impossible that the accomplices would get every step exactly right. Sure, buddy, sure. So why am I giving this 3 stars? Because it's oddly memorable and has stuck with me. Maybe it's the weird tone, but it feels pretty unique. And I think had I known something was rotten in the state of wherever-this-took-place then I would have liked it so much more. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review hardy c I have watched enough film to know the "tell" that gives the plot twist away. When Rush showed the girl his collection of paintings I knew she was going to steal them all. In the end just another May-December pseudo-romance that meanders too much. Still, Rush always delivers. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/21/24 Full Review Munkhchimeg T Mysterious and mesmerizing movie. Wanted to see the ending during the film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Bahad j It was a really good movie. Very instructive. I really liked it. I will watch it again later. Also, I really like the small details of the movie. As he sells and tries to make side deals, he's being hustled the whole time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
