Audience Member For a very low budget, village style Thai movie, it isn't too bad. In fact the gator looks better than some Hollywood production! Acting and dialogue were a bit plain, but wasn't expecting too much anyway. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I tried to like it, but it was pretty bad... Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member To date, the absolute WORST nature run-amok film involving a Croc or Gator was Lake Placid 2. I'm sorry to say that film has officially been dethroned by the Thai film Khoht Phetchakhaat (or The Brutal River). Directed by Anat Yuangngern, whom I'm lead to believe has down syndrome and perhaps minimal experience filming (probably commercials), The Brutal River concerns the appearance of a vicious gator along the river next to a small 1960's Taiwanese village where several people die offscreen at first the body count goes haywire and our cartoon monster starts hilariously eating person after person. This film goes beyond showing bad effects, displaying bad acting, and overall bad filmmaking. I say Anat Yuangngern has a background in commercials because many of the scenes are filmed like a commercial ad, which is awfully distracting. There is more visual acting, rather than dialog. Also, the film has THE worst cinematography I've ever witnessed. It looks as though the cameraman accidentally hit zoom all the way through and was too afraid to tell anyone. People are consistently cut off and shown WAY too close up throughout the entire movie. Serving as a final cherry on top, the person responsible for translating and writing the sub-titles should be crucified. Not only does a lot of it come up inaccurate (don't worry, I took courses on Thai) but the grammar, spelling, and punctuation makes it seem like they grabbed some douchebag from some random forum to do it. Honestly, this film was excruciating to watch. Why not stop it? I real critic critiques a film they watched all the way through. You only made it 20 minutes? Then you shouldn't be allowed to write a review! Ok, back on topic: The Brutal River is AWFUL, case closed. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Thai movie about huge crocodiles eating human alive. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Hahahahahahaha, giant crocodile, witch doctors and true (?) story...highly entertaining, but then ALL giant animal movies are!
