alan g Authentic film about the opening of feudal japan and a clash of cultures. Good action sequences. Fair acting. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/24/24 Full Review Audience Member As a young sailor in Japan, I was an extra in this movie. Think it was actually shot around 1978 or so, and released a few years later. I recall, we were at a Tokyo sound stage on this poorly built model ship. I was playing a marine sentry guarding Perry (Boone). Even with no movie experience, I could tell this was going to be a real bad movie. I recall a scene, where Boone kept screwing up his lines. He suddenly started ranting and raving how he want everyone out of the sound stage area because he could not focus or something. I mean, he was like furious. The Japanese, being polite as they are, were like in shock. I could not help laughing, a tad out loud, and that is when Boone gave me a death stare...luckily at that exact moment of the stare the poor little Japanese director entered the scene and Boone let his wrath escape on him vice what could have been me. Man, it did turn out to be a rally bad movie too. And I had spoken briefly with the young actor Murphy at another location we went to - think he died of AIDS several yeas later; linked to Brad Davis was the rumor. Strange how that little extra job invoked many memories....
