Nick M An aging Eqyptologist acquires a mummy of a princess for his museum with an interesting story. Her husband was an older man who discovered that his younger wife was having an affair. Knowing that his advanced age made it highly unlikely that he could win her back or find a new romance, he opted to kill himself in an unusual way. He had his cook bake a number of preservable cakes, and somehow had poison slipped into one of them. He would eat them periodically, and knew that eventually he would come to the one containing the poison. This way he was assured of dying, but would never be certain when his death would come. The Egyptologist himself is married to a much younger wife, and he worries that he has found himself in a similar position. He injects poison into one of his cigarettes to mimic the methods of this Egyptian prince he so romanticizes. There is a good story here, but this film could have presented it with more polish. It's isn't bad, but I found it to be too laden with unnecessary intertitles, and the moral isn't developed enough to become fully realized. At the end the husband doesn't really seem to have learned anything. It isn't as satisfying as it might otherwise have been if the theme had been explored more fully.
