      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Clapper is tugged along by the valiant efforts of a talented cast, but it's ultimately not enough to make this wan romantic comedy worth a watch.

Erin K This is a sweet movie about earnest, socially awkward people who are just trying to make it through life. They get caught up in an exploitative situation where outsiders make fun of their earnestness and emotional vulnerability. It's gratifying to see them get a happy ending. But it does feel like it just misses the bullseye, there's a lot of untapped potential in this movie and it doesn't completely come together. It's not a bad watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Eric R The movie has probably become as unrecognizable as the clapper is supposed to be. A relatively stand out cast full of cameos, and just about the most random casting of any Hollywood film - but it's just lacking any substance or actual chemistry that it falls flat by the end. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/18/23 Full Review Obviously A really good film with a insightful story line. Good acting with good clapping Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review rudy b Something about quirky movies, with a cheesy rom com, and some drama always get me. It's right up my alley. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Andrew J I'm not sure why I watched it in the first place. The cinematography was ridiculously bad, but the characters and story were worse. Hard to tell if the characters were all supposed to be autistic, but it sure felt that way at the end. All in all a fine example of why Ed Helms should not be a lead and why montiel shouldn't direct. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/25/22 Full Review clinton k Amazed how many people score this badly. It's has a lovely independent film feel for people who like that kind of thing like me. I actually think Ed Helms is better in low key independent work than the big movies he is known for and he portrays the mixed up and reluctant celebrity Eddie krumble with great care in this film. Krumble is a real man and this is a partially true story based on his life. Seyfried is another actor known for her big films but in my opinion this has everyone playing to their strengths. Great moments from Leah Rimini and Tracey Morgan. If you grew up watching 300 days of summer, ,little miss sunshine, Junebug etc this probably the kind of thing you would like, it's odd ball and different and just a refreshing take on the lives of nobodies in Hollywood who are always behind the scenes and whose lives are never recognised in any other film or tv shows. A nice watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sheila O'Malley RogerEbert.com If it's supposed to be a comedy, it's not funny. If it's supposed to be a satire, it doesn't know what it's satirizing. Rated: 1/4 Jan 26, 2018 Full Review Sheri Linden Hollywood Reporter Montiel treats his story's happily unsung oddballs with sincere affection. He doesn't hold them up to ridicule, or insist that they snap out of their quirkiness and conform. But he doesn't quite know what to do with them. Jan 26, 2018 Full Review Tatiana Craine Village Voice It's an interesting premise, but The Clapper doesn't live up to its namesake. Jan 25, 2018 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a relentlessly quirky comedy that remains curiously uninvolving for the duration of its short-yet-not-short-enough running time... Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 22, 2023 Full Review Julian Lytle Punch Drunk Critics The Clapper is a comedy that doesn't totally know what it wants to be, a commentary on fame and class or a romantic comedy. What we end up with is something that never really does both well and ends up hampering each theme. Rated: 3/5 Jan 11, 2020 Full Review Cate Marquis We Are Movie Geeks The Clapper is not a film for everyone. It is a small film that has some charm as a sweet oddball rom com but which falls short in exploring its characters. Rated: 3/5 Apr 26, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
