Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com The result is a film that feels less spontaneous but more grounded than a Sandler flick, perhaps more like a real story. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 7, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Eric L Funny flick. Started out as an idiot but he changed by the end. I found this movie because I liked the main actor in The Harbinger. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Audience Member I can not decide what to say about this movie. I rented this movie having heard nothing about it but something about the description made me decide to give it a chance having rejected everything else on the new release wall. Then I went online to see if what I'd just rented was any good, and found almost no critical reviews, but several highly positive reviews by random people who'd seen the movie. More and more it seems like a very small production. The creators describe their purpose as trying to break into the movie business by showcasing themselves in their own production, like Matt Damon and Luke and Owen Wilson. The website for the movie looks a lot like something you might have once found on geocities. I really feel for these guys, and feel a lot of heart and desperation behind the production. It starts to look like they got some recognition at a few film festivals I've never heard of and got one or two good reviews (and no bad reviews) and possibly had their friends write great reviews for them at sites like amazon.com and imdb.com. Hard to say. Having just watched the movie, my roommate, who had entered into it open-mindedly and laughing, got up and said, "Well, that was quite an adventure," seeming to indicate all-in-all it failed to live up to her standards of successful filmmaking for entertainment. Somewhere along the way it lost her, I guess. And I can't blame her. Yet I can't say it's not worth watching. There are definitely moments of comic delight as this movie wanders adeptly from style to style - from offbeat comedy a la Office Space, to broad infantile comedy a la Adam Sandler, to the purely absurd zaniness a la Andy Dick meets David Lynch, to romantic comedy. The ensemble work is terrific. All in all, I think with a little TLC, this could have been molded into an excellent comedy, if you are not immediately repulsed by the obnoxious infantile main character at the top of the movie - but frankly I think that character was the movie's strength and could have been made even more bizarre to capitalize on the wild absurdity presented at the top of the movie, with the constraints of a wickedly-wise comic genius of a director who knows how to make that character work well in a movie.
