John DeFore Hollywood Reporter A slow-starting but effective lament. Jun 9, 2017 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times This movie's more external approach and overly measured pacing limits our potential immersion into Soto's gritty, provocative story. Jun 8, 2017 Full Review Catherine Gonzales Shuffle Online "La Granja forces us to examine these three different yet similar stories and really look at how humanity is lost within each of the characters while they fight to get out of a harsh reality." Feb 11, 2022 Full Review Fico Cangiano CineXpress Evoking the style of films such as Amores Perros, Babel and 21 Grams, Angel Manuel Soto Vzquez's new offering, La Granja is one of the most impressive films coming out of Puerto Rico in recent years. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I went to see #LaGranja #lagranjathemovie and must admit I loved it (the editing, the different shots with camara, great job no doubt!). I was also glad that I made it to the big screen (like an extra duh but made it!). Was also glad to see that some of my friends also made it (like extras, cameos, etc.). Story/Historia: Este filme se divide en 3 historias (que de alguna manera se entrelazan entre si): #LaGallina: is the story of a woman who works at a hospital and somehow feels the need to be a mother. Can't spoil much of it but the ending is quite disturbing (algo que me encanto y que Amneris Morales interpretó de manera genial/stunning! *felicidades BTW). PS: I was part of the extras in this storyline (at the pub in the start of the film, at hospital a few times an entering the bus too!). #ElGallo: The second story was about this kid who trains with the dream of becoming a great boxer but what he doesn't know is his father's story and how his dream can become in reality his dad's dream. Also the ending to it is disturbing/fuerte. #LaMula: Is about a kid that transports drugs and has a "sister" with a crazy life/boyfriend. The ending is somehow nice with a mix of emotions (no es tan fuerte en si como las otras dos pero te pone a pensar. Fue un buen cierre para las 3 historias). PS: Can't spoil much either here but the "boyfriend" story is kinda tragic...and the actor's role kinda look alike to the gov.'s son hehe (can't spoil much either on that but I believe he also did more than one role). Editaje/director: Must admit I enjoyed the way this was filmed from start to finished. Yes, it was super slow at some points of it but I believe Angel had a purpose for it to be like that. Also felt like a silent movie (creo que it is too his style since in the short film "La Carta" you can tell the "body language" was important). Como dicen las frase: "menos es mas" y "una mirada dice mas que mil palabras". Senti que ya con lo visual presentado no hacia falta explicación alguna, se entendia por si sola. So I congrat Angel for the way he directed this film! Loved it really. Music Score: This was one of my fave parts of the film. The way it was used at the right moments was fantastic+brilliant! I really enjoyed it! Tragic yet inspiring! Me encanto sin duda su manera de ser usada en las escenas mas fuertes e intrigantes. En fin, I give this movie an 8 of 10. Enjoy my short review and if it get's to more Puerto Rico cinemas, people should really watch it! *Si llega a mas salas de cine boricuas, deben verla* Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
