Mike P Familiar character actor Theo Rossi gives an uncharismatic performance in this Dollar Store take on Midnight Run. Rossi probably couldn’t convincingly play the lead in a movie like this even if the script were decent, which it isn’t. Miscast co-lead Shane Paul McGhie’s mumbling, sleepy performance is quite a bit worse. The two leads have no chemistry together. You won’t believe that they hate each other in the beginning and won’t believe they like each other at the end. The dramatic scenes are filled with dull exposition drops, the action is tonally incongruous in its brutality yet still devoid of tension, and the would-be comedic elements don’t even rise to the level of slightly humorous. The Getback is one of those generic low budget movies that is bad but not amusingly bad. You'd think after having directed over 50 films, he'd at the very least would've learned how to direct his cast effectively. Rossi seemed like he was half asleep, and Mulroney seemed lost in his scenes throughout the entirety of the film. It's like a fifth grade drama class directed this mess. Aside from the constant and annoying B-grade score, the pacing was inconsistent, some of the dialogue was cheese, and the directing had more holes in it than bullets fired. With a better filmmaker, this could've been much better. Cohn needs to find a new hobby. It's a generous 5/10 for the somewhat decent story and the awesome cast that was poorly directed.
