Audience Member "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is one off my favorite stories, and I also love silent films because they almost solely rely on visuals to tell a story. Unfortunately, these two loves don't meld well together in the 1922 adaption. Will Rogers is Ichabod Crane, though he shows few traits of the old pedagogue, except a far off zany expression. The rest of the film is pretty lackluster. I appreciate the fact that they filmed the movie in and around the actual Tarrytown, but it's not enough to save the picture. Rated 2/5 Stars •  Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member another good comedy vehicle 4 Rogers Rated 2.5/5 Stars •  Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member MADE IN 1922.Ichabod Crane comes to the town of Sleepy Hollow to be the new School Master,however a local legend of the ghost of a Headless Horseman haunts the forest and is after a human head,Its not great art like Nosferatu or The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari but it is an excellent Silent Movie,the special effects for its time are quite impressive and i'd watch this on Halloween anyday,interestingly enough it lasts 52 minutes aparently but i have a 1 hour 11 minutes cut of it.Do check it out fellow Sleepy Hollow fans probably the best adaptation of the book i've seen. It's more about witchcraft and folk legends than the headless horseman. The movie spends too much time talking about these things rather than showing them. Will Rogers stars as Ichabod Crane in this short movie which was actually filmed around Tarrytown, NY! Rogers' horseman-skills certainly came in handy for the conclusion. I would have to say that this 1922 silent starring Will Rogers is horrid. The quality is horrendous and the soundtrack is unbearable. It is a very true retelling of the Washington Irving story but it doesn't transfer well to this film. Dry, Boring, yet slightly comedic, this version of the Headless Horsemen is one of dullest versions ever. Will Rogers is great but drab. I really cant wait until i reach the talkies, silents are getting on my nerves. There are 30 min. of the film dedicated to Ichabod Crane (Rogers) getting tarred and feathered. It is a waste of time watching those scenes. There are some saving parts to this movie though, even though the transfer from film to DVD is crap. You can tell this is a higher quality film grade. Its this way because it is the first feature photographed on panchromatic negative film, which was equally sensitive to all colors. Unlike the earlier film, which rendered blue skies and blue eyes as pale white. I would have to give this film a 4/10, its saving factor is its comedy and ever so slight charm.
