It holds your interest, even if Jean-Marie remains what he must be to Mr. Cohen: an enticing puzzlement, his faith a mystery. Go to Full Review

The way he finds to live and to die as a Catholic Jew may not satisfy any of the film's characters, but I'll say that I found it really touching. Go to Full Review

Can a person be two things at once? Yes. Not only is it possible, but it can be of value. Lustiger proved that, and The Jewish Cardinal underscores it. Go to Full Review

12/09/2015 this film encompasses WW2, the holocaust, religious differences and family conflicts. As well as the 'politics' of the Vatican. Another great film for me, hopefully for you as well.this is true story about a Jew who becomes a Catholic and is so absorbed in the religion he moves on to priesthood and eventually becomes Cardinal of Paris. See more 09/28/2015 A smooth biopic about an enigmatic hybrid, a Jewish-born cardinal who becomes an adviser to pope John Paul the second. Though he has changed his name and his faith, he remains culturally identified with Jews. His father is heart-broken by his conversion, which seems to ignore the value of his mother's death in the holocaust. His attempts to remain true to his parents' memory are complicated by cold-war politics. The film shows the day to day life of priests, refreshingly free of clicheed romance (His cousin provides the only female presence outside of adoring parisioners). The hero does a good job of striding around energetically, shaking things up. See more 07/25/2015 One sided, laughably unauthentic portrayal of Polish side for someone who grew up there during those times. Painfully grotesque portrayal of John Paul II, untrue to his personality for those who knew him... See more 12/16/2014 I've seen this movie and it was amazing. Glad I did ! See more 11/26/2014 Great movie - Would see it a second time (on Netflix) See more 10/06/2014 A crisp, emotionally and historically credible story of two strong characters in the modern Catholic Church history. Very well done. See more Read all reviews
