Logan L One of the better found footage movies I've ever seen. Super underwhelming ending though, which could've been really good if only a few things were tweaked a little, primarily the acting. Speaking of, the acting at times felt too forced and at other times didn't feel forced enough; not realistic in places considering the situation(s) the actors were in, like the ending for example. Who sees one of their best friends with eyes gouged out and doesn't respond at all other than with defeated sniffles? Overall though this was a pretty good FF film. It had some good moments that could've been better if an acting coach was involved in this project. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/24 Full Review Audience Member This could have been a solid movie, nothing special but at least solid. The character actions and choices just make it far too unbelievable. That's the main thing that hurts this film. It's almost comical some of the inane decisions the characters make. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A found footage film dealing with the paranormal happenings caused by a mirror. That's pretty much it lol. It built up nicely but I was ultimately let down by the ending which I saw coming with about 20-30 minutes left, and it's only 80some minutes long Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I love the whole "haunted mirror" gimmick, but the delivery here was just so poor. The acting was poor and the story was pretty predictable. 2 stars instead of 1 because the makeup team had so much fun Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review jesse o There's a fallacy in this film's premise that, somewhat, wrecks it before it even starts. The characters in the film are documenting this for submission to James Randi's One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge, an actual thing. Essentially this paranormal challenge seeks to find actual proof of the paranormal. Anyone who can actually prove it will get the million dollars. The thing is that they way they presented it in the movie, with the characters filming over a period of time and sending it to the organization is completely wrong. These challenges are done using in a controlled environment with certain criteria set in place that, essentially, are gonna weed out the charlatans who want to take the challenge. If someone claims to speak to the dead or any such bullshit, they'll be able to do so with this criteria, right? It isn't a 'record the video, send it in' type of thing. It's something that needs to be controlled because anyone can fake footage if they've got enough money. So, whenever the characters, or just the one character, act excited that they're getting some great footage that will win them the contest, I was like that's complete and utter bullshit. I completely realize that I'm starting off the review with a nitpick, but it completely took me out of it whenever the challenge was brought up. It's also the type of thing that a small percentage of people will pick up on that they didn't even bother changing it. With that said, it's not like this is a good movie anyway. There were parts of it that I liked, there were certain scenes with some good tension and atmosphere, but there's other parts of the film that suggest that none of these characters, at least Jemma and Steve once the shit starts going down, are complete and absolute idiots. There's one particular scene where Matt, who sleepwalks, comes back with his eyes all fucked up, this is one of the themes of the film. This keeps happening throughout the film, Matt would leave and come back all fucked up. So, one day, he's taking a shower and he comes out scared, with his eyes bloodshot beyond belief, saying that he cannot see. He then gets into bed, does not talk and does not eat for most of the rest of the day. Instead of calling for help, or trying to take him to the doctor, Steve and Jemma resign themselves to the fact that he's gonna be blind now. Steve even says that if Matt doesn't come out tomorrow that then they'll get help. Seriously. Talk about not worrying about your friend's well-being at all. And to top it off, Matt, later that night, sleepwalks and actually murders a woman. There's also this GoPro camera that Matt wears on his body, so they can film what he does, yet Matt never gives Steve back his camera to take a look at the footage. They do actually point this out several times, yet they never go the obvious route of Steve telling Matt that his, Steve's, equipment is making this entire thing possible and it's not an issue of asking nicely for the camera, it's an issue that it belongs to him and he demands it back, or some such shit. Idiots, everyone of them. Steve and Jemma felt threatened one night that Matt sleepwalked and grabbed a knife. They were so scared that they barricaded themselves into Steve's room. Yet they never choose to do anything about it other than argue like it's Big Brother or something. Seriously, there's so much shit that happens that none of the characters react to or shrug off as if it's not important that they just come across like idiots. It's not that it's poorly-made or anything, it's somewhat competent and it isn't as nauseating as some found footage horror films are, but it just lacks something. The story is framed as horror, and parts of it are, but it doesn't really play out much like a horror film. It's just these people arguing shit that you don't really care much about to hear. Not to mention that Matt just leaves and is never seen again. That's another thing, the guy has been lost for a couple of days and yet Jemma and Steve do absolutely nothing. Steve makes ONE call and that is it. Not a call to Matt's family, his other friends, the police. Nobody. They just stay in Matt's apartment just hoping that he shows up. I don't really care that Matt disappeared, I found him unlikable and annoying, but it's just the fact that he's never seen again that kinda bothers me. Particularly considering how much time they spent on him. Really, it's all about the effect the mirror has on people and not about Matt, but still. There's also no backstory or anything on the mirror, which is fine, and different, I guess. But it just feels like something is missing. I guess that adds to the mystery. The last 5 minutes of the film are actually pretty good all things considered, I just think they get the tone down very well. There's no traditional scares in the film, just a lot of unexplained weird shit going on. I guess that makes a horror movie. Granted, horror can be many different things, but it just feels like they didn't have much of anything and they stretched it out to a full-length film. I think the lone review on here makes a good point, it should've been shortened and put into one of the VHS films. And it's a point I agree with, to a point. I do think that a bit more concise storytelling would've been beneficial to the film, it would've all flowed a little better and you get rid of all the filler. I still don't think it would've been very good, but it's something to improve the film. This is a much worse film as I review it than it was when I watched it. It gets a downgrade from 1.5 to 1 star. It's not a horrendously bad film, though parts of it are, it's just that there's not a lot of thought put into many aspects of the film and that came back to haunt them in the long run. Bad film, but far from the worst. Wouldn't recommend it.
