Coming after their equally invigorating and enlightening conservation documentary, Kiss the Ground, directors Joshua Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell return with their newest activist film, the Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World, a documentary that seeks to investigate the harsh and demeaning stereotypes regarding millennials while highlighting the fascinating and inspiring wave of millennials joining in on and leading activist and political pursuits, marking them as one of the most progressive and politically active generations to date. The film starts with the discussion of the millennial generation, remarking on the stigmas that surround them by discussing the financial and political crises and events that have placed them in such light, discussing the massive student debt that weighs on many with no hope of removing, the inflation costs that see prices rise and wages remain stagnant, the fall of the housing market that still marks the economy today, the systemic oppression imbued within our government that keeps many within lower classes burdened, etc. The film jumps from here with an impressive discussion on the sociological structures and repetitious personas that mark every generation, highlighting the near-predictable historical events that only seem to repeat without prevention. The film quickly becomes a single message: to use the events and turmoils of the past now and improve the state of the future with them. Revolution Generation incorporates the discussion of generational deviations with the activist movements that most define this current era and no longer stands as simply a defense for the millennial generation but a plea and a statement of encouragement, to utilize humanity and voice, to dismiss the wait for a turn of change within society and create change yourself. The film's devotion to this message is shown by its impressive cast of interviewees, with celebrity activists such as Shailene Woodley, Corbin Bleu, and Michelle Rodriguez, who narrates the film, as well as political and activist leaders such as Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Renaldo Pearson, Chase Iron Eyes, and many more, all coming together for the advocacy of effective action through protest and political pursuit. The film gracefully incorporates both the subject of the millennial generation as well as activism to deliver its message earnestly and genuinely, holding respect for its subject matter in apparent high regard. It is something inspiring to see and something encouraging to witness, something that seeks more than a witness in the audience, but human kindness and hope.

The Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World directed by Josh and Rebecca Tickell takes us through a fast pace and multifaceted narrative of issues going on currently. They educate viewers on the vitally important role millennials are playing and will continue to play for time to come. They are not "lazy entitled narcissists," as a clip from the Stephen Colbert show included in the film states. But rather shows that they are hard-working, determined, and passionate individuals striving toward a grand pivot in society. The thought-provoking narration by Michelle Rodriguez, a millennial herself, urges viewers to truly self-reflect in a way that allows them to see this movie from a broader perspective. This movie dives into an impressive amount of topics that are then shown to be all correlated, and makes interesting connections between issues one would have never thought to be dependent upon each other.

A voice berating holds no candle to a voice encouraging. In Josh and Rebecca Tickell's The Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World, the witty, earnest voice of Michelle Rodriguez guides the viewer through the world of youth-led activism. Her approachable narration makes the wealth of historical trends, psychological evaluations, celebrity interviews, and political information thoroughly discussed in the film digestible to the audience. Even more impressive is her narration's ability to convey a sense of positivity and hope amongst a sea of negative information. Michelle Rodriguez contributes to the film's biggest strength in that its tone, despite the serious subject matter, manages to be more inspirational than melancholic. This doc establishes the problem but then focuses on the phenomenal efforts by young activists such as climate protester Greta Thunberg and congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Overall, the film's mission to motivate, not discourage, is embodied by the narration. It would be easy to fearmonger or lecture the viewer on everything wrong with the world, which would leave the viewer hopelessly wondering how anything could ever change. Instead, with her voice cheerful and her words laced with a hint of optimism, our heads do not spin with the question "what can we do about it", because Revolution Generation ensures that we are doing something about it.
