After spending unfruitful years studying medicine in the former Soviet Union, Adnan decided to quit and return home. He went against the will of his father, an old, stubborn and very religious man, who all he wanted was to see his son a doctor. Adnan became an alcoholic, further angering his father. Considering it an insult to his morality and religion, the father's punishment was severe. Adnan was disinherited from the apple orchards which the family owned, and in which he worked and spent most his time. Tired and embittered Adnan accidentally encounters Basel, a wounded soldier who escaped the Syrian war in search for his original village. Adnan decides to rescue him and the two embark on a perilous journey to fulfil Basel's dream. But first, Adnan has to confront the village leaders, the Israeli army, and most of all--his father.

Fionnuala Halligan Screen International The Stranger can be a challenging watch, although there's something about its shrouded visuals - presented in boxy Academy ratio - that always appeals, despite the tough voyage. Dec 4, 2021 Full Review Jessica Kiang Variety As a mood piece evoking a specific atmosphere of atrophied idealism, in which relationships and psyches fray under the unseen but pervasive oppressiveness of ongoing occupation, Eldin's superbly crafted debut has an undeniable power. Nov 30, 2021 Full Review Kaleem Aftab Cineuropa The Stranger shares not only a title with the famous Albert Camus work, but also its focus on a man immersed in an existential crisis when faced with the absurd. Dec 22, 2022 Full Review Jay Weissberg The Film Verdict Palestines 2022 Oscar submission is stunningly shot and wrenching in its moving evocation of a man mired in self-loathing and paralyzed by the physical and existential no-mans land resulting in the Israeli occupation and the disaster in Syria.
