What to Know

Critics Consensus

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar seeks to celebrate individuality, but is too timid and predictable to achieve its admittedly noble aims.

Andrea Thompson Chicago Reader ...complete with a final showdown where queer culture fabulously triumphs over gun culture... Jun 21, 2023 Full Review Juan M. Mendez New York Daily News To Wong Foo... is worthwhile if only for the performances, which are surprisingly good. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 18, 2021 Full Review Emanuel Levy Variety A politically correct comedy about drag queens? This is the American response to the superior Aussie flick Adventures of Priscilla. Macho Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo can't lift it above the routine. Rated: C Dec 31, 2006 Full Review Todd James Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta) It succeeds, thanks to the casting of these three macho actors, in the case of Snipes especially, seem to be winking at the audience. Rated: 3/5 Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Marya E. Gates Cool People Have Feelings, Too. (Substack) It’s a beautiful hymn to embracing joy, the revolutionary power of a personal style (that has deceptive substance), and the importance of acceptance — both from others and from yourself. Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Cassondra Feltus Black Girl Nerds To Wong Foo is a groundbreaking gem film that was ahead of its time in celebrating the beauty and art of drag culture. It balances campy fun with heartfelt moments, touching on serious issues like domestic abuse while humanizing its LGBTQ+ characters. Rated: 4/5 Aug 12, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
