DanTheMan 2 It's relatively unfair to assign Tokyo Drifter 2 a rating since unlike the original, this does not have an accurate translation and has been largely confined to the dark corners of the internet. That being said this is a surprisingly solid sequel with plenty of great performances, catchy music, stunning photography and fun direction, it certainly helps that most of the cast and crew return to reprise their roles but you can feel Seijun Suzuki's absence from the film's runtime; it's less pop art experimentation and more a traditional Nikkatsu action thriller with impressionist elements. Kenjirō Morinaga isn't a bad director at all but his style feels lost on anyone wanting more of what made the original so good; Tokyo Drifter 2 is far from what you'd expect from a sequel to such a beloved film, but as it's own thing, it's not that bad at all, hopefully, one day it gets a proper wide release.
