Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times A documentary that presents the sexual exploitation of young women as a systemic cancer that feeds on public misconception as much as male appetites. Dec 12, 2013 Full Review Nick Schager The Dissolve Still, despite its wealth of urgent footage...Tricked doesn't have anything new or particularly eye-opening to say about its subject. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 11, 2013 Full Review Heather Baysa Village Voice The film is wisely sparing of melodramatic flair, allowing the inherent drama of the situation to horrify and harrow on its own. Dec 10, 2013 Full Review Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat Spirituality & Practice A hard-hitting documentary exposing the cruel underworld of sex trafficking of teenage girls. Rated: 3/5 Dec 18, 2013 Full Review Brent Simon Shockya.com Sobering, [but] with a focus that is more anecdotal than comprehensive, Tricked comes off as basically on par with any given television newsmagazine story on the same topic. Rated: C+ Dec 17, 2013 Full Review Anna Storm Film Journal International Another story is implicit here, about the kind of environment...that begets the kind of people it's difficult to see as more deeply shaded than horror-movie monsters. As a clarion call to a broader awareness, however, Tricked sounds a piercing note. Dec 12, 2013 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Fascinating visit of the subject as seen from eyes belonging to all sides. I saw a 75 minutes version in dvd with extras. It seems that all sides are delusional in fact. There is a lot of generalisations but we can see it is not true for everyone. Delusions: prostitutes that thinks get love, pimps that thinks provide love and reason to live, Johns that can't get romantic and would go for a quick fix, police that thinks they are always right to the point that one declares he would kill. This world seems as slimy and muddy as possible and the film shows it. Looking at it, it's still not as bad as war and I don't see the USA fighting that at all. Would the policeman kill to reduce wars? The fact that the police method to stop an enslaving is taking three weeks because "if they stop it right away, she will go back to him right away" speaks of the complexity. Still, when the enslaved is minor, it seems like a no-brainer to me. Some prostitutes seems very willing to do the trade, their complaints appears to be that the clients are always too bad and it's like getting paid to be raped. Not the first time I hear this. But is it the same at the higher echelon? One, in extra, is in S&M and does not complain, for she takes on the torturing role. The major problem seems to be that this world is muddied by excessive profits, drug, violence, lies, delusion and confusion. Society is also not fighting it properly. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny how the love of money keeps turning up as the root of all evils. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review Audience Member An eye-opening documentary about the sex trade, Tricked is provocative and daring. The film interviews several former prostitutes, pimps, and law enforcement agents as they share their experiences; with a focus on how women are lured and trapped into the lifestyle. The stories have a real earnestness to them that's quite compelling, and at times shocking. However, there's not much follow-through on a lot of the disturbing issues that are brought-up in these discussions. Yet even if it doesn't get remarkably in-depth, Tricked is a captivating and hard-hitting look at the growing problem of sex trafficking in America. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Informative but not put together well Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A documentary addressing a swept under the rug issue - the issue of prostitution and sex trafficking in America. Told through the eyes of women who were truly "tricked" into a lifestyle they never desired - a lifestyle of prostitution, trafficking and hopelessness. More importantly they shed light on the issue that many people believe these women "want" a lifestyle of prostitution, that if you stay involved you must "want to be involved" - but the reality is much deeper, much darker - revolving around fear induced captivity. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I almost stopped watching this as soon as it started because it opens with an incredibly offensive and sexist comment from a pimp that's presented almost as fact with no rebuttal. I get what the filmmakers were doing...setting up the environment in which this happens...but it was very difficult to hear that and want to continue watching. But I did continue and it's a pretty solid documentary highlighting the very real problem of human sex trafficking. It will make you mad, but it's worth the watch.
