Scott Tobias Variety The primary color palette and a light, crowd-pleasing tone wins "Tulipani" some initial good will, but as the story lurches from random wackiness to dark melodrama, Van Diem quickly loses his grip. Oct 26, 2017 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij Hollywood Reporter A tone-deaf disappointment from writer-director Mike van Diem. Sep 17, 2017 Full Review Chris Knight National Post Tulipani is a shaggy-dog story that rewards those who hang onto its twisty narrative. Not that it's hard to pay attention, give the winsome characters and breezy plot. Rated: 4/5 Sep 10, 2018 Full Review Jim Slotek Original Cin Believable or subtle, Tulipani is not. But even with its narrative contortions, it is good-hearted and unembarrassed to wield ridiculousness (an explosive fart joke), clichés and anything else it can muster to win over an audience Rated: B-minus Sep 6, 2018 Full Review Ken Eisner Georgia Straight Aggressively crowd-pleasing... Entertaining enough to encourage the suspension of critical faculties for just about 90 minutes. Sep 5, 2018 Full Review Mallory Andrews Cinema Scope Tulipani, Love etc. mistakes whimsicality for significance. Sep 25, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Epic! The negative critics properly screwed up with their ratings Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Was even better then I've expected. Funny, beautiful, romantic. And nice tulips beat bad mafia 🌷 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member The story is amusing and crowd-pleasing. The storyline was a little thin in places, but in the end, it entertained and amused, was quirky and light-hearted. I have no regrets about spending time watching this movie to the end but I won't go to see it a second time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review john s DUTCH TREAT To tell a tall tale, the Italians speak loudly, with much exaggeration, and accompany themselves eagerly with fast moving hands. Subtlety is not on the menu. A rather wild and wooly story, "Tulipani" is told from several points in time, which proves a tad confusing at first, but soon enough, once the audience is priorly strapped in, congeals into a starchy, pasta water whole. We start in Canada, travel back to Holland, but everything really happens in a small Italian town. Locales and languages shift on a slippery dime, which adds to the fun craziness of this engrossing fairy tale of true romance. Gauke, a stoic, heroic Dutch man's man winds up bringing much more than just tulips to a folksy village in desperate need of saving. The loopy plot unfolds from the very colourful memory of the local tavern owner, which takes it into a foggy, grey area. Who knows how things actually went down, but it sure is fun when guided by an old fashioned, wide-eyed story teller. Over the top? Entertaining? Whimsical? Cliched? Silly? Big-hearted? Unbelievable? You betcha. - hipCRANK Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I adored this movie! Quirky, fun and different. Wish there were more movies out there like this one! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review julia p Loved by all the audiences at the Edinburgh International Film Festival who believe it should have wider audience in UK.
