Audience Member With this film, and the many others he created while in the Dziga Vertov film group, Godard creates a new cinematic language, challenging his audience to engage with the political and ideological thought at the time. This film is raw, confronting, and above all, intriguing. This is a film like no other. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review eric b This is perhaps the first of Jean-Luc Godard's absurdly unwatchable films. A handful of radical students sit in some tall weeds and discuss the mechanics of revolution, while sporadic, silent, black-and-white footage of street violence and classroom discussion inserts itself now and then. The dialogue is not about what they're revolting against -- more often, just how to organize and mobilize. Much of the dialogue concerns how to coordinate the workers and students into a unified body. It's possible Godard is ridiculing these students' pointless yammering on some level and would prefer them to be throwing rocks through windows somewhere. As for me, I found myself crossing my fingers for the movie to end with automatic sprinklers turning on and dowsing the kids.
