Katrina Olson katrinaolson.ca It's not an everyone film. It is a deep thinking film. The silence, echo and then vibrational scenes really get inside your head. Rated: 6/10 Oct 30, 2018 Full Review Katherine Monk Ex-Press.com There's no doubt Violent is a deep dive of a drama that leaves a chill, but it's also a profoundly beautiful story that teeters on the edge of genius without even trying because it bypasses language and speaks straight to the soul. Rated: 4/5 Oct 17, 2016 Full Review Ken Eisner Georgia Straight The blue-toned cinematography from Joseph Schweers, who also edited and cowrote Violent, is so varied and adventurous, you have to submit to the film's spectacularly confident storytelling. Oct 14, 2016 Full Review Josh Cabrita The Young Folks This film doesn't move to narrative conventions - it flows like water; it emotes like music; it's a poem made up of images and sounds. Jeffrey O I loved this movie. It reminded me of Kick @ss. Although it was extremely violent, it was tongue and cheek humor that just worked. I thought it was a very entertaining movie. I laughed more watching this than I have at watchingbona fide "comedy films" Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member A lonely young girl sets of for Bergen to start a better life. She has a relative that hooks her up with a job and a place to stay and she also has a friend living there. Her friend is about to move to another city just as she arrives, without her knowledge. That's a rough one, and things does not turn into all that joy she wants and deserves. This is a pretty artsy flick with some freaky electro and some effects that comes by as the stories of her five most influential people enter the screen. In total I dig the production and it's very impressive as it's fonded independently and the shooting was done in only 13 days with only five people within the on-set crew. Another cool thing is that this is a Canadian film, shot in Norway, with Norwegian actors speaking Norwegian. This means that subtitles where needed during the post-production and in the pre-production the script was translated. This film is very unheard of. It only had proper releases in five countries - Norway was never included. It's a shame as it has some great emotions and works perfectly as a small indie film. The part dedicated to "Bent" is especially good, but I really like many scenes and parts of this film, even if it took some time to get into it and it's ways of presenting. 8 out of 10 remote controlled cars. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review nefasto r Ok, this will be a weird review. First of all: the film is just amazing: poetic, powerful, happy, sad and weird! I was going to give 4 stars and the reason, I will be honest, is that I did not get it! I understood everything only after the credits rolled, and you know how? By reading the amazingly simple synopsis of the film! And the understanding of it makes me give half a star more. So read the next sentence to understand more, or figure it out by yourself: "Movie Info: A young woman, and her last memories of the five people who loved her most, recalled while experiencing a catastrophic event." Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A masterpiece. You will cry. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A cinematic masterpiece Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite some hiccups due to a low budget Violent is a wonderfully slow character drama that excels above many that try similar stories.
