howard p I haven't seen many Stan Laurel solo comedies. Maybe I haven't seen any; I don't remember. But while Laurel & Hardy can have me laughing so hard I'm crying, I only found one or two gags in this picture amusing. A well-done short can get you to care about the characters and story in its brief running time, but West of Hot Dog didn't deliver in that regard, either. As I said, I haven't seen many (if any) of Laurel's solo comedies, but I'm guessing that he didn't hit his comedic stride until he started working with Oliver Hardy. I don't think I've seen a silent short by one of the greats as disappointing as this. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
