WeWork: or The Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn is a feature documentary that explores the rise and fall of one of the biggest corporate flameouts and venture capitalist bubbles in recent years - the story of WeWork, and its hippie-messianic leader Adam Neumann. Utilizing interviews with journalists, experts, high-ranking former employees, and former WeWork members, WeWork: or The Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn takes a look at the community-centric, people-first ideal that sent the little co-working venture sky-rocketing into unicorn investment territory, and then investigates what was really going on behind the scenes.

It's hard to ignore the parts that are left unexamined, but WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn does well enough by its real-life stranger-than-fiction story.

Leslie Felperin Financial Times Some might long for a deeper cultural analysis that explores the story's roots in late capitalist culture and the tech bro lifestyle, but informed viewers can look at the deep reporting here and draw their own conclusions. Rated: 2/5 Aug 13, 2021 Full Review Francesca Steele iNews.co.uk A little vacuous, a handsome and timely regurgitation of reportage that’s already been done, without the deeper examination that would have made it as memorable... Rated: 3/5 Dec 10, 2024 Full Review Joanne Laurier World Socialist Web Site What stands out is how effectively Neumann was able to manipulate people who thought they were following a prophet, not a garden variety huckster. Gareth v Solid enough documentary that spends too much time on it's leader Adam Neumann, and not enough on the business side of the rise and fall of WeWork. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/23 Full Review patrick f I knew nothing about WeWork and don't really follow financial news, but still found the documentary interesting. It was well edited with the use of many interviews and numerous pieces of archival news reports. Can be a little boring if you don't care about the financial markets and stories from that industry. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review J R Not really the story of WeWork but the story of Adam Neumann Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/08/22 Full Review Audience Member This guy should've done better as a cult leader. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review dave d Informative, yet empty, Jed Rothstein's documentary film on WeWork and it's owner and founder Adam Neumann is ultimately limited by its scope. Often abrupt for no reason, Rothstein can't get his arms around the truth is stranger than fiction tale. After going on the journey it ends so fast it leaves you wanting more, but also wondering why more questions were not answered. If you like middle of the road docs about greed.... There are a ton better. Final Score: 5/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
