Name N Great horror film. Somewhat of a anthology horror film except all the same characters are still involved each story spilt apart into episodes. Our host is Sean Pertwee as the Janitor and he does a great job. Honestly if you like hot lesbians evil clowns and gore this is the perfect film for you. Don't pay attention to the other reviews this is for real horror fans. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/02/22 Full Review paul d Absolutely Worthless Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member "When Evil Calls" begins with a weak premise (what if there was a chain letter that would grant you wishes, but those wishes were not always benevolent to you) and is made significantly worse by terrible performances, bad special effects and a non-existent story. The film feels incredibly cheap; there is a severed arm prop that gets used multiple times, several shots that should have elaborate make-up effects (like when a girl wishes she was older) but instead have terrible computer generated images pasted on top of the footage and the film even has CG blood, when it is one of the cheapest and easiest effects to do. Sometimes the film feels sleazy, like when a character wishes for x-ray vision and gets to spy on the girl's basketball team (which we see in the nude) and very often it feels lazy (there are not one but two characters that wish to lose weight and two that want to be prettier than their classmates). What really tips the scale is the lack of story. Instead of making a plot to somehow tie all of these together (like with say, the police investigators or high school students we see in the film) we get a fourth-wall-breaking, pun-delivering host that is never as cool or memorable as the Crypt Keeper from "Tales from the Crypt" (which this movie is clearly trying to emulate) that simply introduces a character so we can see him or her make a wish and then get killed. The only way to enjoy this is to invite some friends over so you can make fun of the awfulness of it all, at which point you won't feel like you wasted your time, but you won't want to see it ever again.
