stan d OK, there is just one deep thing with this Sci-fi retro anime dystopia. It is meant for homeland Japan use and addresses the cruel treatment of handicapped people and minorities in Japan. It is in fact viewing the regular Japanese traditions as barbaric and showing that it is similar to people who lost any kind of humanity. This is why the main character is learning to be human again from a handicapped. That`s it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Audience Member OK, after this, no more procrastinating. Sin City was one of those Friday night rentals I watched with a group. Bruce Willis' story arc was sad and a bit creepy. The rest, I felt, were pretty funny. Yes, even (or especially?) the Frodo playing Charlie Brown character (I mean, if you think about it, Elijah Wood is freaky enough as himself, so any character that's less like him ends up less freaky!). The graphic novel source is evident by the art style, with colors and black and white and frosted glasses, etc. The lack of bloodily colored blood was probably what made it all seem too unreal to me, and that's why I was chuckling at just about everything. Sin City walks a thin line between cheesy and dramatic, and for me, that pushed it clearly into the fromage realm. Millennium Actress isn't a very deep story, but it's a real treat nonetheless. It really utilizes the animation to its fullest, putting cuts here and there and creating the same sense of being sucked into someone's life story as it does to some of the characters. And the ending was really uplifting. A Wind Named Amnesia was not as bad as I was expecting. It looks old, but actually isn't stupid or filled with bad anime cliches. It gives off the same vibe as Kino's Journey, a much more recent anime that seems to be well reviewed (I'm more "eh" about it). Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was funny. People who said it wasn't funny hate themselves. The reason it only gets a 7 from me is because it just wasn't as random and preposterous as I would have liked a Hitchhiker's movie to be. Oldboy is a movie that will stick in your mind, unless you rationalize the psychological trauma away. It's dark, yet funny at the most unexpected times. Min-sik Choi carries the movie with his manic yet utterly believable acting (well, if you believe events like those in the movie can actually happen). The weakest part of the movie is the reliance on about as cliche a plot device as you can get, which is hypnosis. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
