Dexter Morgan is a Miami-based blood splatter expert who doesn't just solve murders; he commits them too. In fact, he's a serial killer -- but he only murders the guilty, so he feels justified with his lifestyle choices. His policewoman sister and his cop co-workers have no idea Dexter lives a double life; however, adoptive father Harry knows his secret, and does, in fact, help Dexter hone his "skills." It's a unique brand of justice for which charming Dexter feels a psychological hunger. Read More Read Less

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Heavy-handed symbolism, an unimpressive villain, and a redundant arc for America's favorite serial killer all conspire to make Dexter's sixth season its worst yet.

Richard Rys New York Magazine/Vulture The writers are treading water, waiting for the green light to send this story where we all know it eventually is going. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Ian Grey Salon.com Wherein a series that once deftly balanced dry wit and pulp opera becomes paralyzed by chatter, and the most memorable scene involves a floater's gut leaking CGI snakes. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Martin Chilton Daily Telegraph (UK) The early Dexters were clever, sly and engrossing but, sad to say, the show seems to be suffering a slow and painful death. Rated: 1.5/5 Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Bill Chambers Film Freak Central The reason America loves "Dexter" is because he's not a serial killer but, increasingly literally, Batman. To me, though, he's starting to feel a bit too much like Mike Judge's Milton... Mar 3, 2022 Full Review Matt Barber Den of Geek After a slow start, the season hits its stride. The end of episode three... is a spectacular moment of morbid art, characteristic of the series, that easily makes up for its seemingly leisurely narrative set-up. Rated: 4/5 Apr 3, 2020 Full Review Kevin Yeoman Screen Rant Dexter focused too intently on pulling a fast one on its audience, and unfortunately sacrificed much of the season in the process. Audience Member Terrible Season. Dexter is completely out of character and the storyline is ridiculous Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/27/24 Full Review Audience Member One of the greatest shows of all time. I watched every episode when it came out each week on Showtime years ago. I've been watching Michael C. Hall since Six Feet Under on HBO. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review matthias s "Dexter" Season 6: Entertaining but Not as Good Season 6 of "Dexter" isn't quite up to par with its predecessors, but it still offers an enjoyable ride. Despite a drop in quality, it's worth a watch for fans craving more of Dexter's dark charm. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Jane K The bungling of every crime scene is cringeworthy. Gratuitous nudity, bad writing...comic relief with baptista and Quinn? Please. Dexter and supporting characters continue to carry the season. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/06/23 Full Review NONBELIEVER A bad season of Dexter would be considered the best season for another show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/02/23 Full Review Juan B Dexter is getting into religion… nice. And this season just might prove that Dexter is human after all but in our minds he'll still be a different kind of beast. A neat one. Excellent season with a great villain, and an unbelievable but-was-expected-to-happen-sooner-or-later ending. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
