Candice Frederick Huffington Post It’s a series that relies on stereotypical Black images and text because it has no merit or awareness of authentic Black humanity. Its weaknesses are immediate and frequently exhibited. Apr 26, 2024 Full Review Eric Deggans NPR In a way, it would have been better to just craft this as an original series without all the baggage and expectations of reinventing a TV classic -- but then, Netflix wouldn't have gotten all the headlines and attention from the shocked reactions. Apr 15, 2024 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com The bottom line for reboots is whether the new show brings anything fresh or distinctive to the material, while providing enough of a relationship to the source... to justify the process. Good Times ultimately flunks that test on both levels. Apr 15, 2024 Full Review Shawn Edwards Fox 4 Kansas City The series is degrading, insulting and offensive. Rated: 0/5 May 1, 2024 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media There's a world in which Good Times, the reboot, would be an amusing throwback or ironic commentary on the societal stagnation that has one family still stuck in a cycle of poverty after generations. But this is neither, and it's not good. May 1, 2024 Full Review Korey Coleman Double Toasted The biggest problem with this show is that it is called Good Times. It has nothing to do with that original show, other than the fact that the characters live in the projects and are black. Netflix is using the Good Times name for publicity. Roland C Horrible and degrading. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/14/24 Full Review Slam B This was literally the worst "TV show" I've ever seen. It was wildly disrespectful, dated and out of touch. All stereotypical tropes we've seen a zillion times before...but executed poorly. This shouldn't have ever seen the light of day. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review C. R Sadly, zero stars is not an option. This is a minstrel show. What audience was this created for? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/30/24 Full Review Damon I Garbage. An insult to the legacy of the original. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/10/24 Full Review Afi J Maybe it was the potato chips I ate after seeing the good times reboot, my stomach was feeling a little queasy, the feeling worsen as the new evans family has moved in to the ghetto in chicago. But talk about a tv show that is below water, good times, the sequel series to the 1974-79 classic is dead in the water. the original good times created by Eric monte and Mike Evans and developed by normal lear, remains a classic tv show, the shows tv theme song, the dynomite catch phrase and performances by the cast and crew are forever ingrained in show lore now a new generation of the Evans family has moved into the apartment with less then successful results the performances in this one are worthless, some are wasted in this, the stories are stupid, the editing is a mess, the teleplay is pathetic and the animation is worthless throughout, shame on norman lear for greenlighting this mess. the good times reboot has plenty of people and very little laughs, even the drug dealing infant is offensive as well, just ignorant and incomprehensible. in the last over two decades, we got dreadful tv shows by a drug dealing infant and a disgusting dysfunctional southern family and an amish crime boss. if only they would get together. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/04/24 Full Review Patti W You would think by now, we would have gotten by these tired af stereotypes clearly some of us refuse to..They created this hot mess to amuse no one but bigots.
