When Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody returns home following eight years in captivity, CIA agent Carrie Mathison thinks he has turned and is connected to a terror plot to be carried out on American soil, so she engages him in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that puts America's national security at risk. Later on, Carrie gets a promotion and returns to the front lines overseas. She is assigned to one of the CIA's most volatile and dangerous stations in the Middle East, where she is in the heart of battle in the war on terror. Years later, after being disillusioned and placing herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, Carrie becomes estranged from the CIA, eventually returning stateside where she works for a foundation providing aid to Muslims living in America.

It is preposterous enough that someone at the CIA would be sleeping (maybe even 'fall in love') with a known terrorist. But it's off the rails crazy that her superiors wouldn't kick her to the curb as soon as they found out. Carrie's actions could possibly be justified because she's pretty crazy, and not just bipolar. But there's no justification that she would still have a job. I've only watched about 2.5 seasons, so maybe they figure out a way it all makes sense. But I really doubt it. It’s one of those series where you tell yourself “one more episode,” and suddenly it’s 3AM and you’re still watching. Claire Danes absolutely kills it as Carrie. She’s messy, smart, stressed out, and somehow still holding everything together by a thread. Half the time I was rooting for her, and the other half I was wondering how she even survives her own life. The story gets intense fast, but not in a cheesy way. It feels grounded and realistic enough that you kind of forget you’re watching a show sometimes. Even the slower episodes hit because the characters feel so real—you actually care what happens to them. If you’re into political thrillers, spy stuff, or just want something that’ll keep you hooked nonstop, Homeland is definitely worth a watch. I ended up liking it way more than I expected.
