Soaring high with its immaculate production design and acutely well-observed characters, Masters of the Air can stand proud alongside its sibling series Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Megan e Visually stunning and brutal, the show gives new perspective on life in the air and on the ground during ww2. Performances are good, if a bit stiff. It almost tries to cover too much and because there’s no strong central story, it doesn’t allow a strong connection to the characters, or really a chance to get to know them. Still worth watching! 4.5 stars Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review JD C CGI looks like it's from 2007. Characters are weak. Pace is all over the place. Germans portrayed as 1 dimensional evil demons. Wasn't emotionally invested whatsoever. Has little of the grit nor the soul of Band of Brothers. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Don M This was done really well. You really got the feeling of the emotions that one would go through being in one of those flying fortresses. The courage these people had is amazing to go up there mission after mission. What I liked most about this is it covered the emotional toll on the soldiers not just the action. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Ryan G Fantastic series on the 100th bomb group. Its easy to be a little lost after the first episode or two, but stick with it! Extremely powerful and moving. I've read the book and I enjoyed the show much more. Don't listen to the naysayers. I will be watching it a second time in the near future. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Audience Member With each additional viewing, it becomes apparent what a magnificient achievement the series is. The characters are not quite as well developed as in Band of Brothers and The Pacific, but that is more than made up for by the overall story and the battle sequences. It was well worth the wait. One can only imagine that the next WW2 mini series from Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg would logically need to cover the navy … or even cover the workers back home. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Audience Member This show did an excellent job of portraying the drama and horror that those fliers went through . I thought the half-hearted effort to tie in the Tuskegee Airmen felt forced and gratuitous and a bit clumsy. The whole series would have benefitted from (a few more episodes, first of all) more attention to the role of the arrival of the P-51 in general and that would have give the directors a chance to put the Tuskegee Airmen's celebrated skills in more of a proper spotlight. The POW camp stuff was alright, little too much filler. It seems like the makers of these later WWII series are all trying to play off the Band of Brothers success but don't actually grasp what made that series so excellent. Mike Hale New York Times Orloff and Shiban make choices that are in some cases puzzling, in others explicable but dramatically wrongheaded. Mar 15, 2024 Full Review Graeme Blundell The Australian It was tough to make out what was going on, and it’s the same with Masters of the Air. The fog of war is deep indeed. Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Michael Idato The Age (Australia) Masters of the Air attempts the same [as Band of Brothers and The Pacific] but with less success. And yet, it holds itself together. Mostly. Cary Joji Fukunaga’s direction is crisp. Apr 8, 2024 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate Gripping, exhausting and exhilarating, this W.W.II series chronicles how the "Bloody 100th" - flying B-17s - brought the fighting to Hitler's doorstep, setting the stage for D-Day. Rated: 8/10 Mar 31, 2024 Full Review Audrey Fox Looper.com For aviation enthusiasts, the dogfights in Masters of the Air will likely be a dream come true, but for more casual audiences, they tend to be a little static.
