What to Know

Critics Consensus

Emphasizing spycraft's heavy toll to both intriguing and tiresome effect, The Agency situates its all-star cast in a sumptuously-shot world of espionage.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) The considered pacing, and labyrinthine storytelling, feel apt. This is a show that knows what it is building to, over this season and future ones. Rated: 4/5 Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times The show offers intrigue but it lacks energy. Rated: 3/5 Dec 9, 2024 Full Review John Powers NPR It carefully lays out the agency's daily life, with its strong personalities, office politics and murky missions. Then it starts tightening the screws of suspense. Dec 6, 2024 Full Review Tom Gliatto People Magazine You get the urgency of world events, secret bedroom adventures and-oh!-that Fassbender, with his firm mouth, noble profile and burning gaze. Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate Cliched, stagnant and frustrating this wannabe spy series, adapted from its French counterpart, boasts big-name studs involved in undercover espionage but adds up to very little. Rated: 4/10 Dec 11, 2024 Full Review Alex Maidy JoBlo's Movie Network The Agency is an interesting premise with a solid cast that may be a bit too languid for its own good but still manages to be a pretty intriguing series. Tommy H I've tried watching the first episode a few times. It doesn’t keep my attention, and when something does catch my interest, I can’t figure out what’s going on. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/24/24 Full Review Dr. Michelle L Loved "The Bureau" (des Legendes), the French series this is based on. The drama here is on a slow boil and the characters are not nearly as compelling as many from Eric Rochant's version. Direction feels uninspired and the pacing is sluggish. Solid performances (Fassbender is strong, as always) and writing that at times rises above the cliches of the genre aren't enough to save this show. Unfortunately, the banal version of modern monochrome London does little to anchor the show's urban location, unlike the nuanced Paris of the original series. A second season of The Agency has been ordered and one hopes for more vigor and energy so viewers will want to keep watching. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review S S I have been into spy films since “The Hunt for Red October, “The Bourne Identity”, “The American” etc and find myself measuring a film or series to those examples….. For “The Agency” all I can say is, I hope they have a season 2 3, 4 & and 5 at least…….And I REALLY hope that they do not cheapen out on the quality of the writing, directing, production, staff, and actors going forward as so many franchises do.. I enjoy the fact that this show makes me think…. sometimes I have to rewind and understand the subplot etc, and that's what I like about watching a movie or series. I want to be cerebrally engaged - not just watching gratuitous gore, explosions machine gun and fist fights and on and on…. This series was well done! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review M R Starts out great, then gets worse and worse. Unrealistic forced romance story that only detracts from the story. Plot hole after plot hold. By episode 5 you will be left feeling like an idiot for having watched it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Logan L Michael fassbender is delicious eye candy in this series but unfortunately it’s not enough to save me from the induced coma I’m drifting into. It's being promoted as a thriller, but I'm pretty sure I've seen paint dry faster. Two episodes in and I'm struggling to stay awake, let alone find motivation to start the next one. I've even resorted to Googling the plot to see if there's actually a point to the story. Spoiler alert: I'm still waiting. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Dado F my run ended in episode 5, it was good until it.... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
