August Blom
Key figure of early Danish filmmaking, a very influential and stylistically advanced national cinema, popular worldwide, up through the days of WWI. Blom turned out numerous and varied films from 1906, often based on his own original scripts. He worked most often in the genre of melodrama and many of his productions were of full-feature length at a time when most filmmaking countries were creating primarily one and two-reelers. Probably his best-known and most important film is the ambitious, lavishly produced "Atlantis" (1913). He is also noted for discovering silent screen stars Asta Nielsen and Valdemar Psilander.
