Bill Owen was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. Owen began his acting career with roles in such films as "Trottie True" (1949), "The Rainbow Jacket" (1954) and "The Square Ring" (1955). He also appeared in the Richard Attenborough adventure "The Ship That Died of Shame" (1956), the Virginia McKenna dramatic adaptation "Carve Her Name With Pride" (1958) and "Carry on Sergeant" (1959) with William Hartnell. He continued to work steadily in film throughout the sixties, appearing in "On the Fiddle" (1961), the comedy "Carry on Regardless" (1963) with Sidney James and the Peter McEnery adaptation "The Fighting Prince of Donegal" (1966). He also appeared in the James Mason dramatic adaptation "Georgy Girl" (1966). Owen was most recently credited in the documentary "The Workshop" (2009) with Paul Lowe. Owen continued to exercise his talent in the seventies through the nineties, taking on a mix of projects like "Mad Max" (1979) starring Mel Gibson, "Laughterhouse" (1984) starring Ian Holm and "Valentino Returns" (1989) starring Barry Tubb. His credits also expanded to "The Handmaid's Tale" (1990). Owen passed away in July 1999 at the age of 85.
