Frédéric Rossif
Compilation filmmaker who began his career working for the Cinematheque Francaise and directed several programs for French TV in the 1950s. Rossif has chronicled some of the most significant events of modern European history, including the Spanish Civil War ("To Die in Madrid" 1962, which earned him the Prix Jean Vigo), the Russian Revolution ("Revolution d'Octobre" 1967, which incorporated footage from Dziga Vertov's "Man with a Movie Camera") and the rise and fall of Nazism in Germany ("From Nuremberg to Nuremberg"). His later work included studies of Jacques Brel and Pablo Picasso.
