João Botelho
Joao Botelho is a leading figure in the contemporary Portugese film industry and founder of the critical and theoretical journal, "M." Botelho's 1988 feature, "Tempes dificeis/Hard Times," was a highly stylized adaptation of the Dickens novel which attempted to recapture the visual purity of classical silent cinema. His subsequent feature "Tres Palmeiras/Three Palm Trees" (1994) was part of a trilogy commissioned as part of the "Lisbon 24 Hours" project celebrating the city's designation as 1994's European Cultural Capital."
