Sébastien Pilote
Operating outside of the Québécois filmmaking community, French-Canadian director Sébastien Pilote carved out his own creative space in the remote regions of Saguenay to create his own style of cinema, inspired by the local traditions and socioeconomic landscape of his native region. After his debut film "Le Vendeur" (2011) was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, he followed up his success with the "Le Démantèlement" (2013), which won Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival. His sympathetic artistic approach applied to both films, whose themes centered around fatherhood and antagonists struggling to accept their shifting reality.
