In a space station lab, reclusive scientist Dr. Daniel (Klaus Kinski) is secretly building machines, known as androids, that have similar characteristics to people. One such robotic being, Max 404 (Don Opper), is advanced enough to help Dr. Daniel carry out the experiments, but he turns out to be more human than the isolated inventor suspects. When a female criminal unexpectedly docks on the ship, Dr. Daniel is shocked to find that Max can feel not only love, but jealousy and violent rage.

Audience Member Android or human? What exactly does it mean to be human? Can artificial intelligence be capable of love? Roger Corman and director Aaron Lipstatd presents another one of his inexpensive sci fi romps Taking place in 2036 Don Keith Opper of 'Critters' fame as Max is the latest in artificial human creation, he's learning to understand human anatomy as well as sexuality and procreation Dr. Daniel (Klaus Kinski), is the crazed scientist who made Max yet his next goal is to create the perfect female specimen Apparently the corporation both Daniel and Max work for specializes in illegal experiments that were banned on Earth and lead to a revolt in Munich During their travels though Keller, Maggie, and Mendes have escaped from a broken prison transport and board upon Max and Dr. Daniel's space station These three have their own agenda but Max having never been in contact with a female before takes a huge interest in Maggie, can he really fall in love with her? He's not your typical android as he's very into pop culture, music, and playing arcade games Max just wants to be helpful Dr. Daniel also has something else up his sleeve The movie is cheap that's for sure but still registers as a feature film It doesn't have to be grand just competent Yeah the sets are recycled from other projects and some of the sexual politics are very questionable But this is a classic tale of the creation going against his creator just wanting to merely exist Another cautionary story of man and machine blending together sometimes disastrously, maybe some things aren't meant to be governed by the whims of man, we are allowed to think on our own, should murderers be punished? The ending gets dark very quick and kinda scary with many characters seeing tragic fates Sci-fi that's cheesy but still manages to defy expectations even if there's problems — and occasionally has problematic moments — this should be applauded for daring to enter “another dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind.” Has an intelligent witty script and although it's regulated to just one setting in space it still gets a lot done with sensitivity and febrile humor as a captivating drama of low sci-fi Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review jon c Android or human? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The late, great Klaus Kinski brightens everything he's featured in...at least in my opinion. Your mileage may vary...you're entitled to be wrong.:-) So this low budget, early 80s sci-fi flick is far better than it ought to be. It has a subtle sense of humor, Kinski is great and the last third or so is really effective. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review delysid d klaus kinski plays an android who makes androids Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/17/20 Full Review Audience Member Klaus Kinski plays an oddball doctor (imagine that?) conducting experiments in outer space involving androids. His assistant is Max 404 who unknowingly lets a group of criminals onboard and he begins getting a crush on the one female member of the space outlaws. Chases thought lots of space station corridors ensures. Nothing much to see here except for another unhinged performance by Kinski, but it's not too bad as low budget Roger Corman production go.
