David N. Butterworth rec.arts.movies.reviews With its stunning Flagstaff, Arizona locations and a breezy tone, the John Wayne-produced "Angel and the Badman" is a delightful mix of romance and action, with excellent chemistry between the leads. Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 1, 2016 Full Review Bob Bloom Journal and Courier (Lafayette, IN) One of Wayne's top B efforts; an offbeat love story that works as a romance as well as a Western. Russell is luminous. Rated: 3/5 Nov 21, 2007 Full Review Jonathan R. Perry Tyler Morning Telegraph (Texas) Rated: 2/5 Apr 27, 2007 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com This black-and-white Western, which is Wayne's debut as producer, signals several elements of what would become the John Wayne iconic screen image, partly due to writer James Grant who was a frequent collaborator. James B I recently rewatched The Uninvited which featured Gail Russell in a major role. I noticed her performance wasn't up to par with the rest of the excellent cast, so I looked her up. What a tragic story! In her biography it's mentioned that Wayne's wife accused him of having an affair with Russell at the time, which they both denied, but that would explain the chemistry between the two in Angel And The Bad Man, which is probably one of the good things it has going for it. Otherwise, the production looks rushed with little attention to detail. It's also a mixed genre flick; a fusion of Romcom, Noir, and Western. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review Kevin B Really good story line Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Liam D While not as good as John Wayne's previous or future movies to come it's still a fun western Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/21 Full Review Audience Member Like "The Quiet Man", I enjoy the thoughtful John Wayne character learning and changing as a person. Only found this movie a few years ago, it's now my favorite Duke movie! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review william d Perfectly passable if not overly entertaining 1940s oater with John Wayne. If you like that sort of thing you'll like this movie. If you don't, Angel and the Badman won't change your mind. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review s r A cliche romance western with a Quaker twist. John Wayne's the outlaw who falls for a Quaker and struggles to find his way. Saw it on TCM. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
