Striking gold was the easy part for Alaskan miner Roy Glennister (John Wayne). The real battle is fighting off a posse of greedy, corrupt politicians. Chief among them is Alexander McNamara (Randolph Scott), a gold commissioner who says that Roy's claim is illegitimate. Helping Roy defend his livelihood is sultry saloon girl Cherry Malotte (Marlene Dietrich), whom McNamara also lusts after. These conflicts of interest will likely get settled in the usual way: an epic saloon brawl.

Steve D Like watching paint dry. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/11/23 Full Review Audience Member John Wayne is a goldminer fighting a corrupt gold commissioner with the help of a beautiful saloon owner in Nome, Alaska. A reasonably solid plot aided immeasurably by the star-power of the three leads. Dietrich is glamour incarnate as Cherry Malotte, while Randolph Scott, as the smarmy villian, shades a young looking John Wayne in screen presence. Richard Bartelmess is sound as always as the Bronco Kid, which set me off wondering for the umpteenth time why his career faded so badly in the age of talkies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Not bad! Actually a good western! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Marlene was outstanding, and the fight between Wayne and Scott is legendary and amongst the best ever in cinema. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member The dialog is tops, Wayne rather subdued, and Randy Scott is a BAD GUY... A Good Western With Wayne and Scott Swapping Blows--'What You Win You Can Collect'... Old Western Gold Yarn When the Law Was Illegal Works!!
