This remake of Planet of the Apes can't compare to the original in some critics' mind, but the striking visuals and B-movie charms may win you over.

Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal My Homo sapiens brain was boggled by the movie's clumsiness, while my heart was chilled by the chance that otherwise mature members of my species might mistake this disjointed botch for summer entertainment. May 1, 2024 Full Review Manohla Dargis L.A. Weekly Wahlberg can’t obscure his incredulity at the words he’s made to speak or the sheer silliness of the whole thing. Without latex and a full-bodied shag there’s no hiding from this film. May 1, 2024 Full Review Kirk Honeycutt The Hollywood Reporter While it's fun to revisit this nearly forgotten planet in the company of a master of movie magic, one gets the feeling that Burton never found a way to embrace this place and make it his own. May 1, 2024 Full Review Casey Chong Casey's Movie Mania Despite having Tim Burton on board, he seems to be more of a director-for-hire almost devoid of his distinctive filmmaking style. Rated: 2.5/5 May 10, 2024 Full Review Michael Sragow Baltimore Sun Not a remake but a jumbled revision that tumbles out as if from a piñata. Rated: 2.5/4 May 1, 2024 Full Review Steve Persall Tampa Bay Times Exactly what this mediocre summer movie season needs. Something fresher than dinosaurs and edgier than talking pets and cartoons. Something familiar enough to make us buy tickets, yet original enough to feel the money was well-spent. Rated: B+ May 1, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Urijah S It’s… a movie. Not a good one but… a movie! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Leaburn O I’m a fan of the franchise and his one is nowhere near as bad as it’s made out to be. The problem is Mark Whalberg as always. Though the rebirth of the past few films are of a far higher quality, this isn’t a bad segue from the original series to the modern films. That blonde woman as well. Whatever happened to her? Watched on DVD. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/12/24 Full Review Euan P The ending ruined the entire movie Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Bradley G Planet of the Apes was quite disappointing as I felt the film was cropped and did lack a few things while watching. Mark Wahlberg, Michael Clarke Duncan and Tim Roth were quite good in there roles and Tim Burton did try to keep an understanding timeline of generations. My last point is the ending it was most confusing ending I have ever seen in a film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/13/24 Full Review Audience Member While the idea of the movie is quite interesting, the movie follows a very basic and generic story line without a real plot twist. It was obvious what the characters were going to do before they did it making it a bit stale. Wouldn't recommend it for adults but not a bad movie if you're having a movie night with your children Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/24 Full Review Tom O This movie is a complete waste of time. I thought it might go into "so bad it's good" territory. However, it's just bad. It's hard to believe this movie was made 33 years after the original and only 10 years prior to the far superior reboot launched in 2011. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
