This remake of Planet of the Apes can't compare to the original in some critics' mind, but the striking visuals and B-movie charms may win you over.

Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal My Homo sapiens brain was boggled by the movie's clumsiness, while my heart was chilled by the chance that otherwise mature members of my species might mistake this disjointed botch for summer entertainment. May 1, 2024 Full Review Manohla Dargis L.A. Weekly Wahlberg can’t obscure his incredulity at the words he’s made to speak or the sheer silliness of the whole thing. Without latex and a full-bodied shag there’s no hiding from this film. May 1, 2024 Full Review Kirk Honeycutt The Hollywood Reporter While it's fun to revisit this nearly forgotten planet in the company of a master of movie magic, one gets the feeling that Burton never found a way to embrace this place and make it his own. May 1, 2024 Full Review Casey Chong Casey's Movie Mania Despite having Tim Burton on board, he seems to be more of a director-for-hire almost devoid of his distinctive filmmaking style. Rated: 2.5/5 May 10, 2024 Full Review Michael Sragow Baltimore Sun Not a remake but a jumbled revision that tumbles out as if from a piñata. Rated: 2.5/4 May 1, 2024 Full Review Steve Persall Tampa Bay Times Exactly what this mediocre summer movie season needs. Something fresher than dinosaurs and edgier than talking pets and cartoons. Something familiar enough to make us buy tickets, yet original enough to feel the money was well-spent. Rated: B+ May 1, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Claudio C Planet of the Apes (2001) Same Storyline, but Different Story (11,960 – 29 Dec 2001 / 03 Oct 2025 – by Claudio Carvalho) In 2029, Captain Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) is a researcher who trains chimpanzees in a Space Station. When the commander sees a powerful electromagnetic storm, he is ordered to send his chimpanzee Pericles to check. However, the pod disappears from the screen and Davidson takes another pod to rescue Pericles against the order to stay on board. His pod is thrown to a planet ruled by apes, where humans are slaves. Now Captain Leo Davidson will try everything to summon his spacecraft to take him back home. “Planet of the Apes” (1968) is a classic from the cinema industry wit Charlton Heston in the lead role and a surprising end. Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes (2001) is a film with the same storyline “Earthling crashes in a planet ruled by apes, where humans are slaves”. However, the 2001 sci-fi adventure has a totally different story and is also entertaining and gripping. The cast is excellent, and this movie is absolutely underrated by “critics” and many viewers. I have just revisited this film and it continues to be fascinating. My vote is eight. Title (Brazil): “Planeta dos Macacos” (“Planet of the Apes”) My Blog: https://maniacosporfilme.wordpress.com/ Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/03/25 Full Review Edward M While visually a nice film and Helen Bonham Carter certainly does a fine job in her role, there is nowhere near enough in this film to keep me interested. I'll gladly stick with original even though I've seen it countless times. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/25/25 Full Review Jace T This film is really not the best. Honestly, it's one of my least favorite of ALL Planet of the Apes films. However, the practical effects, and especially the makeup are absolutely incredible and stunning. I'm not a huge Time Burton fan, but he is by far the only one who could have pulled off the practical effects the way this movie did. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/24/25 Full Review Omid S. All these are absolutely amazing, especially the first one sets it off all the other ones are just as good. If not better I would watch every single one with the family and have no rush to watch it. They are the best. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/15/25 Full Review thiago s Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Audience Member Its an alright movie for a one time watch...
