Deborah Ross The Spectator Both dull and deeply unnecessary; a stinker. Aug 23, 2018 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Sight & Sound It is part of the richness of 3.10 to Yuma that this is a classical piece of storytelling with themes and characters that can be found in the very earliest Westerns. Rated: 4/5 May 1, 2008 Full Review Michael Clark Epoch Times The filmmakers take a huge chance by altering the original’s final scene and it doesn’t quite work but neither is it a sellout. Even those who’ve never seen the first will find glaring contradictions yet no one will be able to discount its searing impact. Mate P ***SLIGHT SPOILERS*** 3:10 to Yuma was an underwhelming experience for me, I did have expectations though. The story is great, I liked it. The first half isn't very intriguing, but the second delivered. The characters are good enough. Everyone is layered, but not too much. The ending really surprised me and I loved that. The dialogues are not terrible at all, but some of the line deliveries were surprisingly goofy. The directing is again, good enough. James Mangold could direct the hell out of this today, but I'm still not a fan of his pre-Logan work. His work after that amazes me though. The cinematography is also mixed. I loved some of the lighting, but they chose weird lenses for the closeups. But then the wide shots looked amazing. The editing is good in terms of pacing, but some of the inter cutting is weird. Especially the "Even bad men love their mamas." scene. There I felt like they used a wrong take, the line delivery wasn't right and the editing couldn't do much, because the shot was weird. I loved the practicality though. The effects are absolutely perfect. The casting is great and the lead performances rule. This is not even close to his best performance, but Christian Bale shines and Russel Crowe was still a movie star here. 3:10 to Yuma is a movie I was expecting more of, because of its director and cast. Sadly I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/25 Full Review Mike M Awesome western even if some things are left undone. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/22/25 Full Review Tim M An old-school Western done right in the modern era, 3:10 to Yuma finds director James Mangold firing on all cylinders. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review tommy J One ofnthe best modern made westerns in a long time. I guess we really arent getting may westerns... either way an awesome movie with a great cast. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Faiz D A great ending to a great film. Christian Bale continues to shine as one of the best actors. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Audience Member The action is okay , nothing amazing, but I find the lack of a deeper character development makes the movie not memorable. A nice western but it could have been much more. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
