What to Know

Critics Consensus

While Sigourney Weaver's feral performance as a resurrected Ripley restores some fun to the Alien franchise, the acid blood running through this fourth entry's veins corrodes whatever emotional investment audiences had left.

David Hunter The Hollywood Reporter Alien Resurrection checks in with enough slime, gore and scary monster-flick moments to satisfy undemanding audiences. But it's an ugly, animated corpse of a movie stitched together from the other three films in the series. Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Jay Carr Boston Globe [A] cold but sufficiently nightmarish and high-powered proof that there's life in the old franchise yet. Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald The sardonic bits work, but there's none of the old grandeur and depth, and not much horror either. The smell of evil is missing. Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast You've got to give Alien Resurrection some credit: it takes some big swings. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 29, 2025 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast Too weird, wet and horny to be widely accepted, Alien Resurrection nevertheless captures Jeunet's unique stuff, Whedon's trademark quips, and brings its own flavour to the Alien franchise Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 23, 2025 Full Review Stephen A. Mark K Kind of a fun movie if you don't take it too seriously. Some interesting ideas and good visuals. The creature at the end is horrible looking though. A better design might have landed better. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/24/25 Full Review Munchie A Joss Whedon stripped this movie of what made Alien good: mood, atmosphere, and good writing. If you want to see Alien in a campy action movie then here it is. Ron Pearlman, Winona Ryder, and Sigourney Weaver are memorable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/13/25 Full Review Aidan F. Weird entry to the franchise. Bringing back Ripley was pretty pointless, but this movie was an improvement from Alien 3. A lot more action, there is sort of a “character” development for the Xenomorphs where you really see how smart they are and they get a lot more screen time in this one. They kind of use the same recycled formula during the last act. The performances from the actors were rather forgettable but the FX and cinematography was pretty good. Overall just an OK entry, but I could’ve went without it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/07/25 Full Review Charlie M Dumb fun that’s all. Not a good movie but a more enjoyable watch than the previous entry. Some genuinely fun scenes. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/02/25 Full Review Matthew M Watching Alien Resurrection is like showing up to a classy wine tasting only to discover they’re serving Dr Pepper spiked with tequila. The film begins with the bold idea of cloning Ripley for the eighth time, because clearly, after dying in Alien 3, what she really needed was a comeback tour featuring acid blood and basketball tricks. The cast is a fever dream: • Ron Perlman plays a space pirate who looks like he wandered in from Beauty and the Beast and refused to leave. • Winona Ryder is a robot pretending to be human pretending to be in a good movie. The aliens themselves are confused. Sometimes they’re the past alien franchise killing machines, other times they’re adorable puppies who just want attention in a weird erotic way. By the time the infamous human-alien hybrid waddles on screen- a pale, big-eyed monstrosity that looks like a skeleton baby made of Play-Doh—you can feel the film series quietly drafting its own resignation letter. Overall it is a dull film that seems like a remake of the first alien film but with really poor acting and some lines are entertaining but does not cut it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/29/25 Full Review Zaraki K i dont understand the critics. this is among the best alien thriller in the whole franchise.
