Critics Consensus

While Sigourney Weaver's feral performance as a resurrected Ripley restores some fun to the Alien franchise, the acid blood running through this fourth entry's veins corrodes whatever emotional investment audiences had left.

Alien Resurrection checks in with enough slime, gore and scary monster-flick moments to satisfy undemanding audiences. But it's an ugly, animated corpse of a movie stitched together from the other three films in the series. Go to Full Review

[A] cold but sufficiently nightmarish and high-powered proof that there's life in the old franchise yet. Go to Full Review

The sardonic bits work, but there's none of the old grandeur and depth, and not much horror either. The smell of evil is missing. Go to Full Review

Too weird, wet and horny to be widely accepted, Alien Resurrection nevertheless captures Jeunet's unique stuff, Whedon's trademark quips, and brings its own flavour to the Alien franchise Go to Full Review

See more William M Nov 19 Hadn't watched it since it came out but it is SO much better than I remember. Another great chapter to the Alien franchise. Much better than Alien 3 or the prequels. Sigourney Weaver is great as usual, as was Winona Ryder. The writing & directing was top notch, the practical effects have aged well. Thrills and Chills. Leaves me wanting more. See more Stathis K Nov 16 Story: 8/10 – A darker, sci-fi horror twist on the series. The cloning plot adds new stakes and ethical dilemmas, though the story sometimes feels overcomplicated. Visuals / Atmosphere: 9/10 – The futuristic ship and alien designs are detailed and unsettling. The environments feel both sterile and claustrophobic, perfectly fitting the series’ tone. Action / Suspense: 8.5/10 – Plenty of intense alien encounters and action sequences. Some set pieces are over-the-top, but still thrilling. Soundtrack / Sound Design: 8.5/10 – John Frizzell’s score enhances the suspense and horror. Alien sounds remain iconic and terrifying. Performances: 8.5/10 – Sigourney Weaver returns as Ripley, now hardened and more complex. The supporting cast delivers solid performances, though some characters are underused. Overall: 8.5/10 See more Rock L Nov 16 this movie was so bad i had to watch it twice. idk how anyone could defend it. enjoyed it a lot more the second time having lowered my expectations. idk why some movies are like that. this director rules but doing an alien movie is weird to me for him. See more Chris D. @Nukiemorph Nov 12 A fun, but odd misstep that shouldn’t have happened. The franchise should have let Ripley go after part 3. See more Petar V Nov 8 Easily the most underrated movie in the franchise. It is so good. It's not masterpiece level good, but it is a very fun action/horror movie with a lot of good characters and memorable moments. It is definitely a lot better than Alien 3. See more Read all reviews
